KTM Duke 390 likely to have a Price around Rs. 1.50 lakh

Austrian sports bike maker KTM has started sales of KTM Duke 390 in UK, which has been showcased at 2012 EICMA recently. The United Kingdom is the second market after Italy to get the 2013 Duke 390. The Duke 390 that has gone on sale in the United Kingdom, costs only £4495, which is just £300 costlier than the Duke 200.KTM Duke 200 costs £4195, while the Duke 125 costs £3995. ABS is mandatory in Europe that is why all these three bikes come equipped with the ABS. KTM is going to launch this bike in India as well and Bajaj Auto will manufacture this bike with the Duke 125 and 200. Made in India KTM bikes have been sold in international markets. However, in the Indian market, only Duke 200 is available and soon the Duke 390 will join the fleet. Bajaj Auto will launch the Duke 390 in India by March, 2013 and this motorcycle will be KTM’s flagship variant in the country.

We were expecting a price tag of Rs. 2 lakh for this bike, but the price of Duke 390 in the UK suggest that the bike will cost lesser than this. The pricing of the Duke 390 will be affordable because of the parts sharing across all three motorcycles. The bike shares most of its parts with Duke 200 and 125, except its engine and because the bike will be manufactured locally we are expecting an aggressive pricing. All the UK models of these bikes are ABS equipped, and in India these bikes are expected to feature ABS as a option. The KTM Duke 200 comes at a price of Rs. 1.29 lakh Ex-Showroom, so we are expecting the KTM Duke 390 Non-ABS price around Rs. 1.50 lakh. while the Duke 390 ABS might price around Rs. 1.75 lakh. If KTM launches the bike in this price-range, it will create history for the brand.

The Duke 390 features a single cylinder 373cc engine that comes with a 4 valve/cylinder architecture with a DOHC layout. The motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, which churns out the maximum power output of 44bhp, with the peak torque of 35 Nm. The Duke 390 weighs just 150 kilograms, helping it return a healthy power -to-weight ratio, which allows Duke 390 to touch the top speed of about 160 Kph. KTM is also planning to launch new variants of the Duke 390 in the form of a fully faired model and a touring version.
