Both naked bikes will be BS-IV-compliant

Japanese motorcycle giant Kawasaki is all set to launch the 2017 iteration of its naked bikes, the Z250 and the Z1000, tomorrow. The former would be the cheapest Kawasaki while the latter would be the biggest naked offering under the ‘Z’ series by the brand. Additionally, another variant of the Z1000, the Z1000HG (High Grade), will also be launched in India. The Z1000HG will get additional accessories like larger windscreen, radiator guard and a power socket to charge electronic devices. The HG variant is likely to command a marginal premium over the standard model.
The Z1000 is powered by a 1043cc liquid-cooled in-line four-cylinder engine which generates a peak power of 142PS at 10000rpm and a maximum torque of 111Nm at 7300rpm. The powerplant is mated to a six-speed transmission with a chain final drive. Suspension duties are taken care by 41mm adjustable inverted forks at the front and horizontal back-link, gas-charged adjustable monoshock at the rear. Speaking about the brakes, the front is anchored by dual 310mm petal discs with dual radially mounted 4-piston monobloc calipers. The rear wheel is reined in by a 250mm single-piston petal disc brake. The fuel tank capacity stands at 17 litres, which should ensure good range for this naked bike. The bike also gets full-LED headlamps, standard ABS and slipper clutch. Additionally, the bike also gets an economical riding indicator, in which the system continuously monitors fuel consumption and lets the rider know when they’re riding economically by an ‘ECO’ mark which appears on the digital display.
The Z250 will be Kawasaki’s entry-level motorcycle in India and is powered by a 249cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that’s good for 32PS of power at 11000rpm and 21Nm of torque at 10000rpm. Suspension duties are taken care by 37mm traditional forks at the front and a rear Uni-trak gas-charged monoshock. When it comes to brakes, the front gets a 290mm disc while the rear is equipped with a 220mm disc. It is speculated that the bike will not be equipped with ABS, considering the 2017 Ninja 300 did not get one. The Z250 also gets a 17-litre fuel tank which would be apt for long-distance riding.
The ex-showroom, Delhi, prices of the 2016 Z1000 and Z250 are Rs 12.45 lakh and Rs 3.11 lakh respectively. Expect a premium of around Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh for the 2017 Z1000 and Rs 15- 30,000 for the 2017 Z250.
