Japan Mobility Show 2025: Suzuki Access 125 CNG Unveiled

Suzuki unveiled a variety of alternative-fuel technologies at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. One of the popular unveils was a prototype of the Suzuki Access 125 capable of running on CBG (compressed biomethane gas) and CNG (compressed natural gas). 

At a glance the scooter looks identical to the petrol powered Suzuki Access 125, that is currently on sale in India. However, the major changes can be seen in the form of some vibrant ‘Compressed Biomethane Gas’ stickers at the front and on the sides. Along with this, the scooter also misses out on the external fuel filler cap that is placed above the tail light in the petrol powered Access 125.

This prototype had a 6-litre CNG tank placed inside the underseat storage of the scooter. It takes the whole space, so you may not be able to use it to store groceries. Additionally, the scooter also gets a 2-litre petrol tank. With both tanks filled completely, the scooter offers an estimated range of around 170km. 

This range figure is not that impressive as the Bajaj Freedom 125 offers a claimed range of 330km with its much smaller 2kg CNG tank, and 2-litre petrol tank. Showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the TVS also claimed that the Jupiter CNG will offer a combined range of 226km. Even if you consider our tested mileage of the Access 125 (around 54kmpl average), the range on a tankful comes to around 290km. That said, while it may not offer excellent range, its running costs may be more affordable than petrol-powered scooters of its segment. This is because CNG is cheaper than petrol.

Suzuki seems to be pretty serious about this tech as it’s been working on the project since 2022. It aims to recycle dairy waste for the production of bio-gas, which can then be used for its vehicles in rural India. In fact, it also displayed a miniature model of a biogas plant in collaboration with the dairy cooperative in India. So if the brand thinks this is feasible enough, then we might see the Access 125 CNG scooter being launched some time in the future.
