Now that the BS6-compliant version has launched, we analyse if it makes a strong case for itself over its predecessor!

Honda has launched the Unicorn BS6 in the country at Rs 93,593 (ex-showroom Delhi). In its BS6-compliant guise, the bike gets a bigger engine, enhanced ground clearance, and a slightly longer seat to name a few. This makes it dearer than the CB Unicorn 150 BS4 by Rs 12,852.

Buy Unicorn BS6 for its better performance:

The Honda Unicorn BS6 comes with a 13.5cc bigger, fuel-injected motor. This 162.7cc single-cylinder BS6-compliant motor makes the same power as the BS4 model (12.9PS), but it arrives at 7500rpm instead of 8000rpm in the BS4 bike. The bike also makes more torque -- 14Nm at 5500rpm as opposed to 12.8Nm at the same rpm in the BS4 model. The motorcycle weighs 6kg less than the BS4 bike, at 140kg. All these changes should result in sprightlier performance overall.

Moreover, going over bad roads will be an easy affair as the ground clearance has been increased from 179mm to 187mm. Even the rider and pillion comfort is expected to be better as Honda claims the seat length has gone up by 24mm. Another noteworthy feature is the introduction of a low-rolling resistance tyre at the rear, which should improve the mileage at the expense of outright grip.

Buy CB Unicorn 150 BS4 for its value:

The Honda CB Unicorn 150 costs Rs 80,741 (ex-showroom Delhi). As mentioned before, the Honda CB Unicorn 150 is a whole Rs 12,852 lesser than the newly launched BS6 model. That’s a pretty hefty premium considering the segment itself is extremely price-conscious. Apart from the aforementioned features in the BS6 bike, the bike remains the same as the BS4 model.

You get the same telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, 240mm front disc and 130mm rear drum with single-channel ABS. So if you have a tight budget and don’t mind the added performance, the CB Unicorn 150 should fit the bill. Moreover, there are good chances of certain dealerships offering discounts to clear out the stocks as the bike cannot be sold post the BS6-emission norms deadline of April 1, 2020.
