With the demise of the venerable CBR250R, Honda had a pretty gaping hole in its Indian portfolio between its 160s and the CB300R. To plug that gap, it has introduced the stylish Hornet 2.0, powered by a 185cc motor. It isn’t quite a true 200 like the RTR 200 or Pulsar NS200, but how does it fare in terms of performance? Well, we’ve tested the bike’s acceleration and braking with a VBox as well as its mileage in the real world, so read on to find out.

Sure, the displacement may only stand at 185cc, and output figures are also a modest 17.27PS and 16.45Nm, but another small figure is the Hornet’s 142kg kerb weight. This makes it just 2kg heavier than its 160cc predecessor. This, combined with some rather short gearing, means it feels quite sprightly and is rather quick on its feet. The 14.44sec 100kmph dash is only around half a second slower than something like the RTR 200 4V.

Unfortunately, Honda has skimped and offered only single-channel ABS on this Rs 1.27 lakh motorcycle. Fortunately, the Nissin brake setup works rather well, making it one of the quickest stoppers in its segment. The 276mm/220mm disc brake combo offers decent stopping power and progression, taking just over 50m to stop from 100kmph.

The same light weight that helps the Hornet accelerate quickly also makes it a very frugal motorcycle. Poor engine refinement levels mean that highway cruising speed is practically limited to around 85kmph, but the upside to this is the excellent 55.77kmpl mileage figure returned at this speed. Things get better in the city, where the Hornet has proved to be even more fuel efficient than some 160cc offerings!
