The iconic bike Splendor has completed 20 glorious years. To celebrate the special occasion, Hero Motocorp has launched a special limited Edition of the bike to be called Hero Splendor Pro Gold. The special edition comes in at a time, when the erstwhile partner and closest competitor Honda has launched Honda Dream Neo, Honda's cheapest bike and the direct competitor of the Splendor. Hero MotoCorp, which is the largest bike manufacturer not only in India but also globally, knows all the twists and turns of the Indian bike market and knows how to deal with Indian buyers. Well, the special edition is to celebrate the 20 years of Splendor's successful reign, which is also the world's largest selling bike.
Hero Splendor Pro Gold has got some minor changes with a golden paint job depicting the golden years of reign of this iconic bike. Another change is the badge “special edition”. The rest of Splendor Pro Gold remains unchanged from the regular variants. The bike continues to feature its potent and proven 97.2cc four stroke single cylinder engine, which renders 7.7bhp of peak power at 7,500 rpm with peak torque of 8.04 Nm at 4,500rpm.
The Special Edition Splendor Pro Gold has been priced at Rs.48,500, ex-showroom Delhi, around Rs.1000 more than what the regular variants cost. This also makes it the top-end variant of the Splendor line-up. It comes with alloy wheels and a self start. Hero Splendor is enjoying the no.1 spot for more than a decade now and continues. However, the sales have been dipped marginally as Bajaj Discover 100 is giving it a neck to neck competition. To shake the firm hold that Splendor could set in the Indian bike market, Honda's Dream Neo's joining the battle is inevitable now. But can these bikes dethrone the Splendor?
