Hero Maestro Edge 110 BS6 vs TVS Jupiter BS6 vs Honda Activa 6G: Spec Comparison

The 110cc scooter space is one of the most competitive segments to be in. So can the BS6 Maestro Edge 110 hold its own against its rivals on paper?

Hero has pretty much updated its entire BS6 portfolio with the exception of a couple of bikes and scooters, one of them being the Maestro Edge 110. It’s pegged to be launched soon and will take on the likes of the Honda Activa 6G and TVS Jupiter ZX BS6, two of the best selling scooters in the market. So can the BS6 Maestro Edge 110 hold its own on paper? 

Engine:

The BS6 Hero Maestro Edge 110 features a slightly larger motor with better torque output. In fact, it only lags behind the Honda Activa 6G. And while most BS6 two-wheelers have lost out on some performance, the BS6 Maestro has gained in this department. It makes 0.05Nm more torque than before. And that's not the only feather in its cap. 

The Maestro 110 gets an ECU along with a couple of new sensors like crank position sensor, engine oil temperature sensor, manifold air pressure sensor, throttle position sensor and air inlet position sensor. Expect the updated configuration to offer a smoother ride, improved throttle response and thus better performance. 

Unfortunately, the new scooter misses out on a starter generator that’s available on its rivals. To add to this the Honda Activa comes with engine friction reduction measures like an offset cylinder, compact crankshaft and optimised piston to help improve refinement, features that aren’t available on the Maestro Edge 110. Having said that, the latter is said to be 15 percent more fuel efficient than its BS4 predecessor as opposed to the Activa which is 10 percent better than before.

Dimensions:

The Maestro Edge and the Activa 6G stand almost shoulder to shoulder in terms of wheelbase. Meaning both scooters may handle better than the longer wheelbase Jupiter which may feel more stable in a straight line. The shorter wheelbase also has a two-fold effect which may help the Maestro Edge overcome taller speed breakers despite having lesser ground clearance. 

What may work against the Edge 110 is its taller seat height and weight. While they aren’t a deal breaker in any way, women riders might find it a lot easier to ride the Activa 6G or the Jupiter and move them around in the parking lot. Another chink in the Maestro's armor is its smaller fuel tank which may hamper its range compared to other scooters here. 

The Activa 6G, on the other hand has the most amount of ground clearance of the trio and is also the lightest scooter here. All three scooters now come with an external fuel filler cap which should make life a little more convenient. 

Price & Verdict:

Hero has always hit the nail on the mark when it comes to pricing. Though the Maestro Edge 110’s prices have not yet been announced, we expect the scooter to be priced somewhere around Rs 58,000 to Rs 59,000 (ex-showroom). The Maestro Edge may not come packed with features like its rivals, or feel premium for that matter, but it's expected to offer a decent amount of performance in a sporty package. So if you are looking for an affordable scooter, the upcoming Hero Maestro Edge 110 BS6 could be your pick.

But if it’s features you are looking for, the Honda Activa 6G DLX variant is the way to go. It comes with a full LED headlight in addition to other features like a starter generator and engine kill switch. It's also one of the best scooters when it comes to refinement and reliability. All said and done, the Activa 6G does come at a price.

As for the Jupiter, the top-spec variant comes with an LED headlamp, a front disc brake, starter generator, an all-in-one lock and a front glovebox. And even though it's the most expensive offering here, it has practicality and safety going for it.
