Does it still have the same character as its predecessor? Let’s find out

Before you do anything, click on the link below. Yes, it’s the new Jawa in the flesh! We've been riding both the Jawa and the Jawa Forty Two to see what they have in store for you. While our review will be up on our sister website Zigwheels.com by Friday afternoon, here’s a brief video of the two motorcycles’ soundtrack! P.S: Make sure you wear your headphones.

Jawa Engine Exhaust Note Revealed

Now, that you have a fair idea of what the new Jawa sounds like, here's a quick aural review of the older Jawa. More specifically a 1967 Jawa 353/04!

Sounds different, right? This is due to the fact that older Jawas used a two-stroke engine. So it’s not surprising that it has a slow, slightly metallic idle which turns throaty when revved.  In comparison, the modern iteration packs a four-stroke motor and has a flat, fast-paced and bassy exhaust. However, the new Jawa packs an adjustable DB killers close to the tip of the twin exhausts. Here you have two grooves between which the DB killers sit. If you want a throatier exhaust note all you need to do is push the DB killers inside. This is a pretty simple procedure and can be done by you or a neighbourhood mechanic, with simple tools.

Speaking about the engine, Jawa has designed it to look like an old-school motor. However, underneath all that, it packs a modern 300cc motor that churns out 27PS of power. In comparison, older Jawa bikes made half as much as power at 12PS with its 250cc engine.

The new Jawa also packs modern components like telescopic front forks, twin gas-charged shock absorbers, a 280mm front disc and a 153mm rear drum unit. For safety, it gets a single-channel ABS unit.

The Jawa Forty Two has been priced at Rs 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the classic version, simply called the Jawa is priced at Rs 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
