Harley-Davidson has announced that there will be no price hike for the X440 and all its variants. It is still priced from Rs 2,39,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), despite the increase in taxes due to GST 2.0 regulations. Also, the bike is now offered with free 2-year RSA (Road-Side Assistance) and a warranty of up to 8 years, which makes it an even more sensible purchase.
The Harley-Davidson X440 is a roadster motorcycle from the brand and is powered by a 440cc, air-oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Being a 440cc motorcycle, it now attracts 40% GST (applies to all two-wheelers above 350cc), as opposed to the earlier 31% (28% GST and an additional 3% cess).
As per our calculations, the base variant of the X440 was supposed to be priced around Rs 2,55,900 (ex-showroom), about Rs 16,400 more than the current ex-showroom price with the new tax regime, but the brand’s GST absorption comes as a huge relief. Being the cheapest Harley-Davidson bike in India, the X440’s pricing remains crucial for the brand as it is the entry point into the Harley-Davidson lifestyle. With the brand absorbing GST, Harley intends to keep its accessibility intact. Retaining the prices also gives Harley a fighting chance against Royal Enfield’s domination in the 350-450cc segment.
It’s worth noting that all Royal Enfield 350cc bikes have now become cheaper, with the top-end Royal Enfield Classic 350 variant being Rs 23,750 cheaper than the base variant of the X440. That said, the X440 still has the upper hand as far as performance is concerned.
On the flip side, expect the rest of the Harley-Davidson big bikes to get costlier, but that will not really affect the target audience as they’re all super-premium bikes that cater to the affluent.
