TVS Apache RTR 160 4V New Top Variant Explained

TVS recently launched a series of updates for its Ronin and Apache lineup. This includes a new top variant for the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, called TFT with Map Mirroring, priced at Rs 1,41,440 (ex-showroom Delhi). Here is all you need to know about it:

Design & Styling

While the overall design aspect of the bike remains the same, the new variant comes with an addition of new colour: Arctic Teal with Champagne Gold alloy wheels. Matte Black, Racing Red, and Marine Blue are other colours on offer for this variant. The design and styling remains aggressive, sharp and muscular, which in all honestly, needs no change. The round projector headlight is flanked by sharp DRLs on the edges below. The engine cowl and tank extensions look well finished, and they add to the performance-oriented look of the bike. The sleek tail section adds a contrast to the beefy bullpup exhaust.

Features

In the features department, TVS gave this variant map mirroring feature via Bluetooth, which is a good step-up from the turn-by-turn navigation feature, and it looks good on the 5-inch TFT console. This is a much-needed feature especially considering its arch rival, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 SS debuted with this in the segment. 

Apart from this, the new top variant gets a panic brake alert which flashes hazard lights during aggressive/panic braking scenarios. It also gets a USB-C port, handy for charging modern electronic devices. 

Other than these, the rest of the feature-pack remains the same. This includes three riding modes: Sport, Urban and Rain, which alter the engine output and ABS intervention. It also comes with adjustable levers, all LED lighting and GTT (which allows the rider to move at low speeds with just the clutch modulation). 

Engine & Performance

Mechanically, the bike remains the same with its 159.7 cc single cylinder, air-oil cooled, 4 valved, SOHC engine, making 17.55 PS at 9,250 rpm and 14.73 Nm at 7,500 rpm in Sport mode. The Rain mode drops it to xx PS and xx Nm. The gearbox is 5-speed with slip and assist clutch.

Safety & Hardware

With dual-channel ABS, RLP (Rear-wheel Lift-off Protection) and traction control feature, it is as safe as it gets. In the front wheel, it has a petal disc of 270 mm, while the rear uses a 240 mm rotor. The suspension setup is also the same as the previous top variant: a 37 mm USD fork and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock.

If you’re looking for the most practical features that make a solid impact in your riding experience, then the premium for this range-topping version is worth it. That’s because it has all the necessary safety features (read dual-channel ABS) and practical bits, especially the Google Map mirroring functionality. Instead of the USD with TFT variant (which was the earlier top-end trim), it is worth shelling out a bit more and getting this one.
