Hero MotoCorp’s First Electric Motorcycle To Launch In 2027

Hero MotoCorp is finally getting ready to enter the electric motorcycle space, with its first electric bike confirmed to launch in 2027. The company currently has its EV presence through the Vida electric scooter range, but it is now working on dedicated motorcycle platforms.

Two New Platforms In The Works

Hero is developing two electric motorcycle platforms, called UBEX and VXZ. Both were first showcased as concepts at EICMA 2025 and are designed specifically for motorcycles rather than being based on the current Vida scooter platform.

The UBEX platform will underpin a street-naked electric motorcycle, while the VXZ platform is being developed in collaboration with American electric motorcycle maker Zero Motorcycles. The latter is expected to be a more performance-focused motorcycle with an adventure-oriented design.

Built For Motorcycle Riders

While Hero says it has carried over some learnings from its Vida scooters, these new platforms have been developed from the ground up for motorcycles.

The company says the focus will be on performance, rideability, gradeability and range. This suggests Hero wants its electric motorcycles to offer more than just an eco-friendly alternative to its petrol-powered bikes. Hero MotoCorp’s Chief Business Officer for its Emerging Mobility Business Unit, Kausalya Nandakumar, has confirmed that the electric motorcycles will arrive from next year, while CEO Harshavardhan Chitale says the company will share more details in the coming months.

Hero’s EV Push

The electric motorcycle programme comes at a time when Hero is also looking to expand its Vida electric scooter business. The company plans to increase its monthly Vida production capacity to 45,000 units in FY27, up from 15,000 units at the end of FY26.

With the UBEX and VXZ, Hero could soon have a much wider EV portfolio, covering everything from everyday electric scooters to performance-focused electric motorcycles.
