Upcoming Triumph Speedmaster 400 Spotted Testing For The First Time!

The next Triumph 400 could be a cruiser built to take on the Meteor 350

Quick News Highlights:

  • Gets a larger front fender and a big windscreen

  • Will get the same TFT console as the Bonneville T40

  • Expected to launch in October 2027

A new Bonneville test mule has been spotted testing, and we believe it could be the upcoming Speedmaster 400. It was only a matter of time before Triumph introduced more motorcycles based on its new baby Bonneville platform, and we may already have a glimpse of what could be the next model.

How Is It The Speedmaster?

Take a closer look at the test mule, and there are several clues suggesting that this could indeed be the upcoming Speedmaster 400. The most obvious change is the addition of a windscreen, and it is quite a large one at that. The Speedmaster is positioned as a cruiser, and the windscreen would add to its touring credentials.

The next major clue is the larger front fender, which covers considerably more of the front wheel compared to the one on the Bonneville T40. Apart from the windscreen and larger fender, the test mule is also fitted with a substantial amount of luggage. This could indicate that Triumph is putting the motorcycle through load testing to evaluate how it performs at highway speeds when fully loaded.

A side-by-side comparison of the test mule with the Bonneville T40 also reveals a few other changes. The Speedmaster 400 appears to get a handlebar that sits slightly closer to the rider, meaning the riding position could be more relaxed and require less reach.

The Speedmaster is also expected to feature the same round TFT console as the recently launched Bonneville T40 and could carry over much of its feature list.

Why The Speedmaster First?

It would make sense for Triumph to introduce the Speedmaster first, considering the popularity of the cruiser segment in India. The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 currently dominates this space, and Triumph could see an opportunity to take on the popular cruiser with a more premium offering based on its new 400cc platform.

All said and done, we expect the Speedmaster to be followed by another derivative of the Bonneville T40, potentially a smaller and more affordable Bobber 400.

Expected Price & India Launch

The Triumph Speedmaster 400 is expected to launch in India around the same time next year. It is likely to sit above the Bonneville T40 in Triumph’s lineup and could be priced at around Rs 2.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

That said, Triumph could also introduce a more affordable T4 variant, similar to what it has done with the Bonneville T40, giving buyers a more accessible entry point into the range.
