Should you shell out Rs 12,000 more for a greener Classic or are you better off with the older model?

Royal Enfield has finally started its BS6 innings in India with the updated Classic 350. Now, we say updated and not all-new, because Royal Enfield has hardly equipped it with new features or given it any major cosmetic update. So should you spend around Rs 12,000 more than the BS4 model to go green?

Design and features:

Apart from two new paint options (matte black and chrome), the updated Classic 350 looks exactly like its predecessor. Now, we haven’t received any official word, but the new paint schemes are likely to be priced around Rs 1.78 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh, making them the most expensive Classic 350 variants out there! We would have appreciated if Royal Enfield had at least tweaked the design a bit as it’s been quite a while since the Classic 350 has been given a cosmetic makeover. Moreover, the bike maker could have equipped it with some new features like an LED headlamp or an updated instrument cluster.

Engine and underpinnings:

Royal Enfield hasn’t revealed the specs yet, but it’s fair to say that there might be a slight difference in power and torque figures. In the previous model, the engine produced 20PS and 28Nm. Moreover, we also expect this new fuel-injected 346cc unit to offer better fuel efficiency compared to its predecessor. Rest of the mechanical parts like the suspension setup and the braking hardware are the same as before. However, the BS6 model now gets tubeless tyres as standard. We will reserve our verdict on whether there is a major difference in performance until we get our hands on the test unit.

Should you buy one?

Well, if you want one now, you could opt for the BS4 variant, which is around Rs 12,000 more affordable, as the BS6 variant hasn’t got any new update apart from the motor. You can use that extra Rs 12,000 to accessorise your Classic 350 or even opt for the extended warranty program that RE has rolled out for its motorcycles!
