Has Suzuki nailed it with the Dhoom bike’s pricing?

The 1340cc engine now makes 190PS and 150Nm. Gets a sophisticated electronics suite. Deliveries will commence mid-May onwards.

Three months after its global debut, the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa has finally launched in India at a mouth-watering price of Rs 16.4 lakh (ex-showroom). Laying rest to the rumors, the bike is being brought via the CKD route from the get-go, allowing for an aggressive price.  Bookings began at select showrooms a few days after the global unveiling, and its deliveries will start from the second week of May. The new ‘Busa will be available in Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Burnt Gold, Metallic Matte Sword Silver/Candy Daring Red, and Pearl Brilliant White/Metallic Mat Stellar Blue. India is one of the few markets where the bike is available in the white paint job.

For the first time, the Dhoom bike gets a new and comprehensive electronics suite, including 10-level traction control, 10-level wheelie control, three-level engine brake control and launch control, and the new Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS). The SDMS allows the rider to choose between six modes (three presets and three customisable). Completing this package is the new bi-directional quickshifter and hill assist control.

Suzuki has not made any substantial change to the 1340cc inline-four motor other than making it BS6-compliant. However, the greener engine now produces 190PS at 9,700rpm and 150Nm at 7,000rpm, a whole 7PS and 5Nm less than the older model. The 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa continues with the twin-spar aluminium chassis, but gets a new subframe. Even the KYB fork and monoshock have been carried over from the older model but with revised internals.

Dropping the anchor on the new ‘Busa are bigger 320mm discs paired with top-of-the-line Brembo Stylema callipers up front and a Nissin calliper at the rear. Despite all these changes, the new ‘Busa is only 2kg lighter.

At its price point, the 2021 Hayabusa is Rs 2.65 lakh more expensive than the outgoing model. The ‘Busa locks horns with the BMW S 1000 RR (Rs 19.50 lakh). But if you are looking for a motorcycle with stunning performance figures, you could consider the Triumph Rocket 3.
