The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will first make its way to Bangalore and Pune

[UPDATE : Bajaj Urbanite Electric Sub-Brand Launched In India; Showcases Chetak e-Scooter]

  • Bajaj’s first e-scooter will be called the Chetak Chic.
  • It will compete against the Ather 450 in India.
  • It is likely to be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).

We’ve all been eagerly awaiting Bajaj’s first e-scooter, but unfortunately all of us aren’t going to get it at once. We have learned that Bajaj is planning to launch the Chetak Chic in a phased manner, with only two cities to get it at first. The two cities in question are Bangalore and Pune, which makes perfect sense when you think about it.

Bangalore is a hub for electric mobility in India, with many startups based there, including Bajaj’s biggest competitor in this segment, Ather Energy. The city has a large number of EVs on its road and consequently, it also has a sizeable charging infrastructure already set up, making it an ideal launch pad for the Chetak Chic.

Pune is the manufacturer’s home city, and launching the e-scooter here will allow Bajaj to quickly gauge market response and also swiftly address any teething issues that may come up. Bajaj has been spotted testing the scooter in and around Pune, and an official launch is expected on October 16.

The Chetak will be launched under Bajaj’s Urbanite sub-brand and we expect it to be priced around Rs 1 lakh. The scooter will feature a full-digital instrument cluster, LED lighting, 12-inch alloy wheels and a front disc brake.
