After launching the SXR 160 in late-2020, Aprilia is now gearing up for the launch of the smaller-capacity SXR 125. Production has commenced at the company’s plant in Baramati. If you are keen on buying one, you can pre-book the SXR 125 over Aprilia’s booking website for a token of Rs 5,000. Expect it to launch by the end of the month, or latest, by early May.
The SXR 125 follows the same maxi design ethos as its elder sibling and is expected to pack the same features. The RS660-inspired triple LED headlights, the chunky body panels, and the huge windshield make the scooter look deceivingly bigger than it is. As we found out once again during our road test review, the SXR 160 was no larger than a Honda Activa 6G. Hence, expect the same to carry on with the SXR 125.

The main difference between the two Aprilia maxi-styled scooters remains the engine. This smaller SXR will be powered by a 124.45cc 3-valve mill that puts out 9.9PS and 9.6Nm, just like it does on the Storm 125. Given how Aprilia has tuned the CVT differently on the SXR 160 to lend it better bottom-end performance (than the SR 160), a similar tweak might be in store for the SXR 125.
One of our ride’s highlights with the SXR 160 was the improved ride quality, which was better than the sporty SR 160. It managed to soak in bumps way better than any Aprilia scooter has done thus far. Since the SXR 125 will be a bit more reasonable and India-centric, the suspension could be tuned for an even more plush ride.
It will continue to roll on 12-inch wheels and be shod with the same chunky and grippy MRF tyres as the SXR 160. It does get a disc brake at the front but will only get CBS.
If our estimate proves to be correct, Aprilia could launch the SXR 125 at around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). It will still be a premium offering compared to the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and the TVS NTorq 125. But, it should be able to justify the premium better than any other Aprilia scooter thus far.

- Detailed review of Aprilia SXR 125I have been using Aprilia SXR 125 since April of 2023. Good handling, Nice design, Bad fuel efficiency, High Maintainace (service advised every three months, which is not the case with other scooters). I have ridden less than 1300 Km in a year. Last week, the clutch of the scooter broke while i was getting it to the service center for the 5th service. The parts were replaced, but all expenses are out of my pocket, the 5 years warranty which was offered does not cover this repair. The explanation I was given is that the clutch was damaged because I rode the scooter with the brake engaged. This made no sense to me as I have owned two other scooters with no one else operating the vehicles. For 15 years I had a TVS scooty pep+ without such clutch issues. And under 1300 km usage, damaged the Aprila scooter's clutch in my use. I am thinking of going to the consumer court. I would like to know if any other Aprilia customer has faced the similar situation.Read More1
