The electric scooter gets a claimed range of 100km in Eco Mode

  • The Ampere Magnus Pro electric scooter is priced at Rs 73,990 (ex-showroom).
  • It is currently available in Bengaluru and other cities will be added soon.
  • Notable features include an LED headlamp, LCD instrument cluster, keyless entry and anti-theft alarm.

Indian manufacturer Greaves Cotton’s electric two-wheeler arm, Ampere Electric Vehicles, has launched the Ampere Magnus Pro electric scooter in the country. It is currently available in Bengaluru and will be sold in other cities soon. Ampere’s footprint is spread across 200-odd dealerships pan-India. Priced at Rs 73,990 (ex-showroom), the scooter costs almost Rs 30,000 dearer than the lead-acid battery powered Magnus 60.

The Ampere Magnus Pro comes with a three-year warranty on key components and it can be extended to two more years by paying Rs 2,700. The company claims its average running cost is Rs 2,700 a year and that one can recover the vehicle cost in three years. You can book the scooter on the brand’s website for Rs 2,999.

The Ampere Magnus Pro is powered by a 1200W motor with a claimed top speed of 55kmph and a 0-40kmph acceleration time of 10 seconds. The lithium-ion battery is detachable and takes 5-6 hours to charge completely. Fast charging option is also available, offering a claimed range of 100km in Eco mode and 80km in Cruise mode. When the battery is at 10 per cent, the Limp Home feature will ensure it can go up to 10km with the remaining juice.

Other notable features include a generous 450mm legroom for optimal comfort, LED headlamp, LCD instrument cluster, apron-mounted cubby hole with integrated USB charger, underseat storage light, keyless entry and anti-theft alarm.

The scooter employs a telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. Drum brakes on both ends coupled with CBS take care of braking. At 150mm, the ground clearance is good enough for most of our broken roads. As far as the competition is concerned, the scooter goes up against the Gemopai Astrid Lite and Okinawa Ridge Plus.
