Ampere Magnus G Max vs A Traditional 110cc Scooter: How Much Money Can You Save In 5 Years?

Electric scooters have become a serious alternative to petrol-powered commuters, especially as fuel prices continue to rise. The Ampere Magnus G Max, priced at Rs 99,499 (ex-showroom), promises low running costs and practical everyday usability. But how much money can it actually save compared to a typical 110cc petrol scooter?

To find out, we compared the two over a five-year ownership period, assuming an annual running of 7,500km.

Purchase Price: No Longer An EV Disadvantage

One of the biggest hurdles for electric scooters used to be their higher purchase price. However, that's no longer the case. At Rs 99,499, the Magnus G Max is priced in the same ballpark as many popular 110cc scooters, making the switch to electric easier than ever. The Magnus G Max is powered by a 3kWh battery pack, comes with 5 year/75,000km Battery Warranty, a large 33L boot space and offers a claimed IDC range of 142km.

Based on those figures, the scooter consumes around 0.021kWh of electricity per kilometre. Assuming an average residential electricity tariff of Rs 7 per unit, the running cost works out to just Rs 0.15 per kilometre.

For a rider covering 7,500km annually:

• Annual charging cost: approximately Rs 1,110

• Five-year charging cost: approximately Rs 5,550

Now compare that with a typical 110cc petrol scooter returning 55kmpl.

To cover 7,500km annually, the petrol scooter would require around 136.36 litres of fuel every year. At an average petrol price (as of 2026) of Rs 107 per litre:

• Annual fuel cost: approximately Rs 14,590

• Five-year fuel cost: approximately Rs 72,953

That's a difference of nearly Rs 67,500 in running costs alone! And this figure is without adjusting for inflation. 

Maintenance Costs: Another Win For The EV

Apart from lower energy costs, the Magnus G Max also benefits from simpler mechanicals. There are no engine oil changes, spark plugs, air filters or clutch components to replace.

Over five years, a typical 110cc scooter can easily incur around Rs 15,000 in routine maintenance costs. In comparison, the Magnus G Max is expected to require significantly less upkeep, with estimated maintenance expenses of around Rs 5,000 over the same period.

Verdict

When all the costs are added up, the Ampere Magnus G Max comes out significantly ahead. Despite costing about the same to buy as a conventional 110cc scooter, its much lower running and maintenance costs help reduce the overall ownership expense by nearly Rs 75,000 over five years. The cherry on top is the massive 2,00,000km battery life, which (according to the annual use case) will last over 2 decades! 

That's before considering future fuel price hikes. Add to that the convenience of charging at home and freedom from concerns surrounding increasing ethanol blending in petrol, and the Magnus G Max makes a strong case for buyers looking for a practical, family-friendly and economical daily commuter.
