Honda Activa 125 BS4 Highlights

Honda has increased the price of the BS6 Activa 125 by Rs 552 which pushes the cost of the scooter to Rs 68,042 (ex-showroom, Delhi). More information here. The Activa 125 is the first BS6 compliant scooter to be sold in India. While its bodywork remains similar to the previous Activa 125, the new scooter gets a new front fascia with integrated pilot lamps. The bodywork also includes an external fuel-filler cap. Other features include a new semi-digital instrument console that shows average and real-time fuel efficiency as well as distance-to-empty readout. It gets side-stand engine immobiliser, pass light switch and an engine start-stop system. You can check out our road test of the BS6 version here.

The Activa 125, which has been around for quite some time, has received an update in the form of LED headlamps, LED position lamps and a bigger 'Honda' badge up front. Convenience-enhancing features include the addition of a retractable hook behind the front apron and an optional mobile charging socket under the seat.

The 4-stroke BSIV engine remains unchanged as the updates are only cosmetic. The 124.9cc, single-cylinder engine churns a maximum power of 8.63PS and a maximum torque of 10.54Nm and is mated to a CVT gearbox. The company claims that it can reach a top speed of 84kmph and returns a mileage of 60kmpl.

The Activa 125 is equipped with Honda’s Combi Brake System (CBS) for effective braking. The standard version gets 130mm drum brakes at both ends whereas the Deluxe version comes with a 190mm disc brake up front. The base variant gets steel wheels instead. Suspension duties are managed by telescopic front forks and preload-adjustable rear monoshock.

The Standard variant of the Honda Activa 125 is priced at Rs 60,240. The mid variant with Drum brakes and alloys wheels is priced at Rs 62,176. The disc brake variant, on the other hand, costs Rs 64,625 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The Activa 125 competes against the Suzuki Access 125, Hero Destini 125 and the TVS NTORQ 125.

Activa 125 BS4 Expert Review

Honda has added a tinge of excitement to Activa 125 by including numerous features to the offerings list and making it compliant with the BS-IV emission standards. It supersedes opponents predominately on these grounds. Honda Activa 125 is a powerful, appealing and rider-focussed scooter that lives up to the consumer expectations. The style enhancing elements are more than pleasing especially the FRONTASTIC chrome chest equipped with LED position lights. Further features like the mobile charging socket, 18-litre under seat glove box, retractable front hook and telescopic front suspension system make it a desirable ride to own.

Moving from the convenience front to practical and safety front, Honda has blessed the scooter with the Combi braking system, AHO, solid metal body, disc brake which is a part of Activa 125 Deluxe variant. To get your hands on this amazing Honda product you need to shell out Rs 56,954 (Ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Standard variant which comes with steel wheel, Rs 58,900 (Ex-showroom, Delhi) for Alloy variant with Drum brakes and the range-topping variant Activa 125 Deluxe can be bought at Rs 61,362 (Ex-showroom, Delhi) which comes with alloy wheels and front disc brake.

Design and Features

Honda is known for its elegant yet practical styling and with all new Honda Activa 125, the company designers have certainly not disappointed anyone. The 125cc scooter is simply a treat to watch as it glides down the road. Despite its tough metal looks it has the poise to attract new buyers. What makes you fall in love with this scooter is its uniquely designed front panel. The front features a large headlamp cluster with LED position lights and an attractive chrome chest that leaves a fantastic impression on viewers’ mind. There is a sophisticated digital analogue meter which displays components like analogue speedometer, digital trip meter, odometer and fuel gauge. The display is lit by adequate lighting which makes it easy to read for the rider. The cuts and cosmetic lines across its side add sparkle to its overall appeal. The seating position is optimal for a rider ensuring a comfortable commute. At the rear end, it has grab rails which are stronger than earlier and offer great support to the pillion. Giving a satisfying end to the scooter is the sharp tail which features peculiarly designed tail light with integrated turn indicators.

On the convenience front, it has a lot to offer- from a retractable front hook to an under seat 18L storage space. There is a mobile charging socket in the under seat compartment which is a quite handy feature to have in a two-wheeler when you are on the move. Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) is a part of all new Honda Activa 125 which improves visibility significantly not just in dawn, dusk or fog but also in bright sunlight. Honda has blessed the scooter with Eco Technology and made it BS-IV compliant as well.

A new mid trim with alloys and drum brakes and a new colour (Mat Crust Metallic) option are now part of the Activa 125’s offerings list. Other available colour choices include the Midnight Blue Metallic, Black, Rebel Red Metallic and Pearl Amazing White.

Engine and Performance

Hiding under the flesh sits a 124.9cc fan-cooled 4-stroke SI engine that is capable of putting out a max power of 8.52PS at 6500 rpm and a peak torque of 10.54Nm at 5000 rpm. The engine is mated to a V-Matic transmission system that makes easier for riders to simply twist the throttle and enjoy a joyous ride. The company claims that it can attain a max speed of 84kmph. However, riding at such speed won’t do any good to scooter’s fuel economy. Honda claims that it can yield a fuel efficiency of 59kmpl, thanks to the integrated Honda’s Eco Technology.

Braking and Handling

Honda Activa 125 features a telescopic suspension at the front which lets the rider pass bumps with ease. While the rear end gets spring loaded hydraulic type suspension unit. Other than Deluxe variant both the variants get drum brakes at the front as well as at the rear ends. Range-topping variant Activa 125 Deluxe gets a 190mm disc brake with 5-spoke alloy wheel at the front and drum brake at the rear. Talking about the tyres, front end sports 90/90 12-inch tubeless tyre while the rear features 90/100 10-inch tubeless tyre. In addition to this, Honda Activa 125 features Combi brake system that adds an extra layer of stability.

Safety and Features

The highlight of safety department would be Combi brake system (CBS) with equalizer. It not only adds stability while braking but a sense of safety to the rider. Plus, there is AHO (Automatic Headlamp On) that lets rider aware of what’s coming with a crystal clear vision. It works well not only in fog, dust or dawn but in bright sunlight.
