Pulsar 150 150cc DTSi Expert Review

From the 1930s, when the company was established in Rajasthan till today, Bajaj Auto has given the country and the world as a whole a very grand and wonderful collection of automotives to drive, to enjoy, to love and to admire. But the one thing that this Indian bike-major is most widely known and praised for today is the Pulsar bike series that it has been so gracious to gift the planet with. And one of those many scintillating rides that are not only a Pulsar by name but are actually very capable of accelerating the pulse rates of bike-lovers is the Bajaj Pulsar 150cc DTSi. Launched in the year 2001, this motorcycle marked the beginning of a new era in the segment of premium motorbikes in India. And while its original retro looks were enthralling enough to take the breath away from an observer, the company never failed to upgrade that that smashing outfit with changing trends making it all the more exciting every time. So miraculous has been the effect of P150 over the global audiences that it took Bajaj no time at all in becoming the second largest motorbike manufacturer in the country and the third largest in the world.

With the family genes of trust, reliability and performance running through its veins, advanced technologies working under the hood and a pack of electrifying features to top them all made Pulsar 150 DTSi an instant hit with the youth and sent waves of revolution rushing through the entire market. There is no doubt that Bajaj designers have put in a loads of hard work to make this motorbike look like a star, but that hasn't been their point of focus. Engine technicalities have been the top-most priority of P150 makers. That's the reason why the innovative EXHAUSTEC technology has been employed for the power-mill of this ride. Improving the torque-producing capability of the engine, this mechanism allows the motorcycle to accelerate normally even with heavy loads thereby reducing the fuel consumption and improving the fuel-economy. This is what makes Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi deliver an impressive mileage of 55kmpl which is way beyond the ratings of other 150cc models in the market.

When it comes to the designing of the new Bajaj Pulsar 150, it sports the perfect design with the perfect blend of style, color and muscle. Carved with a length of 2055mm, width of 755mm and height of 1170mm, P150 weighs about 143kg and possesses all the bulk, size and dominating traits that are sought-after in a 'Big Bike'. Besides these, it also provides a very good ground clearance of 165mm and a large wheelbase of 1320mm making ample room for the riders while keeping the bike free of any damages caused due to a bumpy road. As for the electrical system, it is a standard 12V full DC circuit that maintains a uniform power supply to the headlamps thereby providing proper illumination at all times. Coming to comforts. The seats of this model are of split-type that gives proper room to both riders and keeps them free from any inconvenience. Plus, for the driver's ease particularly, the digital console mounted on the handlebars has been fully loaded leaving no detail behind. Low fuel indicator, neutral blinker, self-canceling indicator controls and low battery display – there is nothing that the driver won't find on this panel. The handlebars, meanwhile, are clip-ons that makes handling much easier and hence, the good performance of the bike lasts longer.

Bajaj new Pulsar 150cc DTSi Appearance

Appearance of Bajaj Pulsar 150cc DTSi is the most alluring of all the amazing traits that the bike masters. A pure street fighter to look at, P150 is an accomplished head-turner. Starting with the wolf-eyed headlamp fitted with pilot lamps and going right up to the rear-mounted LED taillights that have a style statement of their own, this member of the Pulsar family is a star. Flaunting a basic aggressive character, this motorbike showcases its muscular build quite well but does not overdo it. A broad and beefy fuel tank adorned with smart aerodynamic fairing creates the perfect balance between speed and might. The same blend is seen echoed in all the details of the ride which, when combined with the edgy cuts and contours, results in a shell that is nothing short of a piece of art. To top it all, the tyres of this model are very thick that adds to the mighty build of the machine while the stylish 'Pulsar' brand name etched across the fuel-tank further accentuates the visual appeal of the ride.

The new Bajaj Pulsar 150 has been blessed with a powerful engine that delivers an exceptional performance. 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled and equipped with DTS-i (Digital Twi-Spark ignition) technology that define the power-mill of P150 that comes with a displacement capacity of 149.01cc. This mighty machine is capable of cranking a maximum of 14.75bhp at 9000rpm for a maximum torque of 12.5Nm at 6500rpm. And coming with the air-cooling technology, this engine is capable of getting rid of the heat very efficiently and hence, it promises a steady performance over a much longer lifetime. Plus, the incorporation of the advanced and innovative DTSi technology accounts for a more effective combustion of fuel which means more power while EXHAUS-TEC brings a faster pickup with it. Together, these two result in a uniform performance graph at all rev-ratings and a diminished effect of load on the motorbike. Being mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox that in turn, is paired with a wet multiplate clutch, helps the power-house of P150 to get an enhanced performance and deliver a better mileage. That's why, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi can accelerate from 0-60kmph in just 5.8 seconds while the top speed that it can achieve is a whooping 136kmph.

Bajaj new Pulsar 150cc DTSi Mileage

Bajaj Pulsar 150cc DTSi is one of the most fuel-efficient bikes in its class. While the company claims the bike to deliver a mileage of 58kmpl, users have marked it somewhere between a 50kmpl and 55 kmpl which brings us to a minimum average of 50kmpl which is quite decent for a 150cc ride.

A proficient braking system that employs 240mm Disc brakes at the front and 130mm Drum brakes at the rear tyre works for Bajaj Pulsar 150cc DTSi. However, a need for a larger set of Drum brakes has been felt in P150 to bring a braking mechanism into existence that would be better suited for a 150cc bike like the one we are talking about here. As for the riding, Pulsar 150 DTSi is a joy to ride. With Nitrox Rear Shock absorbers, along with a 5 step adjustable ride setting working seamlessly to provide a smooth and perfectly cushioned ride to the riders, this Bajaj bike provides a wonderful riding experience each time. Plus, the telescopic front-end suspension system with anti-friction bush absorbs the shocks on all forms of roads, never disappointing its masters.

Seeing the inherent aggressive and speedy nature of this ride, safety is of extreme importance for its riders and the company, therefore, has made no compromises there. An effective braking system composed of disc and drum brakes that are coupled to a thick 90/90 x 17 inch front tyre and 10/90 x 17 inch rear tyre helps in bringing the speeding bike to a halt within a short distance and ensuring the safety of the riders as well as others. Further, the tyres being of tubeless nature ensure that the riders do not face troubles resulting from frequent flat tyre incidents. Finally, all of these factors put together, provide a superb road grip to the motorcycle and hence, prevent skidding incidents from occurring.
