Overview
The well-known Italian company has released another variant of Vespa named as Vespa SXL and it is available in two variants that are SXL 150 and SXL 125. It receives a lot of cosmetic changes along with 150cc and a 125cc engine that add some shine to these retro-styled scooters. Both the variants feature an oval shaped headlamp that has a chrome bezel finishing. The scooters are fitted with wide tubeless tyres.
The SXL series is designed on a monocoque full steel body. Vespa SXL shares its design with Vespa S and the instrument cluster is also the same. The SXL 125 gets its power from the same 125cc, 3- Valve, single-cylinder air-cooled engine that is used to serve current models while the SXL 150 is powered by the 150 cc engine, 3-valve, single cylinder, air-cooled engine. Both the variants features a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) that comes mated to the engine.
Variants of SXL have 200 mm Ventilated disc brake at the front and 140 mm drum brake at the rear. The suspension system of the scooters consists of aircraft derived single side arm with an anti-dive feature at the front and dual effect hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. All these features not only modify the styling of these retro style scooters but also makes your ride comfortable and convenient.
Design
Piaggio Vespa SXL 150 and 125 are bolted on a monocoque full steel body. Both feature a rectangular headlamp that has a chrome finishing. Furthermore, the SXL range gets lots of cosmetic update like newly designed LED indicators lights, restyled tail light, steel grab rail etc. Besides this, it has been also offered with such as 5-spoke alloy wheels, broader tubeless tyres, electric start and switchgear.
The SXL series has an overall body dimension of 1770 mm in length, 690 mm in width and 1140 mm in height. A wheelbase of 1290 mm ensures the stability while on the go. Talking about the instrumentation, it is easy to read and displays the information about digital odometer, trip meter, clock, clear lens turn blinker lights, fuel gauge, low fuel warning lights, low battery indicator and an analogue speedometer. These scooters have a well-padded and thick cushioned seats that offer optimum comfort to the rider as well as pillion.

The SXL range features a rectangular headlamp that offer a steady beam of light and brighten up the road pretty well at the nights even in the dark areas. Both the variants receive a front disc brake that gives a sound stopping power and works very well in any conditions. Moreover, these retro-styled scooters come with wide tubeless tyres that prevent from unexpected air leakage in the case of a puncture and reduce the chance of any mishaps. Such kind of feature makes these scooters a lawful and reliable fellow, especially in rural areas.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The SXL 125 is powered by the same 125cc, 3 Valve, Aluminium Cylinder Head, Overhead Cam and Roller Rocker Arm, MAP Sensing and Variable Spark Timing Management engine that is used to serve its current model Vespa S and develops a 9.9 bhp of power at 7500 rpm along with 10.6 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. On the other hand, the SXL 150 is propelled by a 150cc 3 Valve, Aluminium Cylinder Head, Overhead Cam and Roller Rocker Arm, MAP Sensing and Variable Spark Timing Management engine that generates a maximum power of 11.4 bhp at 7000 rpm along with 11.5 Nm at 5500 rpm. Both the mill comes mated to a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) that ensures the stress-free ride. Apart from this, it has a 3-Phase electrical system and auto ignition.
Handling & Ride Quality
The SXL 150 and 125 runs on 11-inch at the front and 10-inch at the rear wide tubeless tyres that further fitted over 5-spoke alloy wheels. These wide tubeless tyres offer a good grip on the roads. These retro-styled scooters come to halt with the help of 200 mm ventilated disc brake at the front and 140 mm drum brake at the rear. Furthermore, it has been also fitted with the suspension system that includes Aircraft derived single side arm with Anti-Dive characteristics at the front and Dual-Effect Hydraulic Shock Absorber at the rear which offers a hassle-free and comfortable ride to the rider as well as pillion.

Vespa SXL 150 BS4 Latest Updates
Vespa has unveiled the Racing Sixties scooter at the Auto Expo 2020. It is a sporty variant of the SLX 150 and gets a 60’s inspired white and red livery with gold wheels. Other than the cosmetic updates the mechanicals and underpinnings remains unchanged. It will launch in the second quarter of 2020.
Vespas are known to be the funkiest in the premium scooter segment. The SXL 150 and VXL 150 feature a new smartphone connectivity option for added practicality. Using the Vespa Connectivity app, users can access their scooter’s details, service history and last-parked location. In case of emergencies, riders can also use the Panic Alert feature to reach out to the pre-set emergency contact with the current location. The new colours include Matt Rosso Dragon, Matt Yellow and Azzuro Provenza with machine cut alloy wheels. The Vespa SXL 150 costs Rs 97,276 while the VXL 150 is priced at Rs 91,140 (both prices ex-showroom Pune).
Powering the Vespa 150 range is a 154. 8cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor that’s good for 10. 06PS at 6750rpm and 10. 9Nm at 5000rpm. Paired with a CVT gearbox, the scooter comes to a halt using a 220mm front disc brake and a 140mm drum. The brakes are fitted to 11-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels. They are shod with 110-section front and 120-section rear tubeless tyres. Suspension duties are handled by a bottom link coil spring up front and a hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. The fuel tank capacity has also been increased by 1 litre, and now stands at 8 litres.
The Vespa SXL and VXL 150 do not have any direct competitors in their segment apart from the Aprilia SR 150 range and TVS Jupiter.
