The base variant of the Yamaha MT-15 V2 comes with almost all the major features as the premium version, so you don’t necessarily need to spend extra

    Yamaha MT 15 V2 STD

The Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 is offered in two variants: standard and DLX. Both look visually the same minus some differences in the colours and features. With a starting price of Rs 1,64,410 (ex-showroom Delhi), the base variant undercuts the DLX by around Rs 9,000. So is it worth buying the standard variant or does it feel like a compromise? We explain:

    Price & Positioning

The STD variant of the Yamaha MT-15 V2.0 is priced at Rs 1,64,410 for Metallic Black and Rs 1,65,310 for Metallic Silver Cyan (ex-showroom Delhi). This positions it as the most pocket-friendly model in the MT-15 lineup.

    Design & Styling

     Yamaha MT-15 Design

Visually, the STD variant gives away nothing to its more expensive DLX variant. It retains the full naked design language that defines the MT series. The aggressive front is dominated by a LED projector headlight, giving it an insect-like look. The muscular tank, compact tail section, and exposed Deltabox frame create a sharp, athletic stance.

Premium touches like aluminium swingarm, and a wide 140mm radial rear tyre are all standard. The only limitation on the STD variant is the colour palette. It is offered only in Metallic Black and Metallic Silver Cyan. The more vibrant shades like Metallic Black DLX, Ice Storm DLX, Vivid Violet Metallic DLX and Ice Fluo Vermillion DLX are reserved for the Deluxe variant. For a buyer whose priority is the raw streetfighter look, the STD model delivers the full visual impact without compromise.

    Features

Yamaha MT 15 V2 STD Features

The STD model is aimed at riders who prioritise the mechanical package over digital integration. As such, it misses out on a few key convenience features.

    • What's Missing: The most significant omission is Yamaha’s Y-Connect Bluetooth system. This means no call/SMS alerts, phone battery status, or app-based connectivity on the instrument console. The STD variant also uses standard bulb indicators instead of the LED flashers found on the Deluxe. The colour TFT display with turn-by-turn navigation is exclusive to the higher variant.

    • What's Included: Despite these cuts, the STD variant is functionally well-equipped. It includes a full- LCD instrument cluster that displays a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, clock, real-time and average mileage indicator, and a gear position indicator. It also retains the full LED headlight and tail lamp.

    Safety & Hardware

     Yamaha MT-15 Safety

The good news is that the brand has not compromised on the safety or the underpinnings. Usually this is the case with many motorcycles, but it’s good to see the brand not cutting costs here. The bike comes standard with dual-channel ABS, which offers much better braking performance compared to a single-channel unit. You also get a basic traction control, which prevents rear-wheel slip during aggressive acceleration or on slippery surfaces. It’s not super-critical to have on a 150cc bike, but will still be useful for inexperienced riders.

The braking hardware consists of a 282mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The suspension setup is also not a top-tier for the segment, featuring a USD fork and a linked monoshock. This entire package is built around Yamaha’s renowned Deltabox frame, ensuring sharp handling and stability. Buyers of the STD variant get the exact same premium chassis and safety net as those opting for the top-spec model.

    Engine & Performance

Yamaha MT 15 V2 STD Engine

Thankfully, Yamaha has not compromised at all when it comes to this. It’s got the same 155cc liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) tech. With this, the bike is properly fun to ride both at low speeds and while pushing it on the highway. The gearshifts are smooth and precise, and with the slip-and-assist function, you need not worry about losing control while downshifting aggressively. The clutch lever effort is also light. For riders who care purely about the thrill of the ride, the STD delivers the full, unfiltered experience.

    BikeDekho Says

The Yamaha MT-15 STD is the ideal choice for the rider who values performance, handling, and safety above all else. It offers the complete, uncompromised mechanical package. Sure it may not have the geeky features, but it still delivers the core streetfighter experience at the most accessible price point in the lineup. Also, the lack of connected tech isn’t really a dealbreaker as Yamaha itself offers a workaround for this. It has a smartphone holder along with a USB charging port as part of the official accessory list, so you’re pretty much covered.

Unleashing the Beast within the V2
The Yamaha MT 15 V2 is a top pick because it offers a perfect mix of style and performance for city riding Many riders choose it for the aggressive look that makes it stand out on the road Another big reason is the Variable Valve Actuation technology which gives you great power both at low speeds and when you are pushing it harder. It is also very light and easy to handle in heavy traffic while staying very fuel efficient It basically gives you the feel of a much bigger sport bike without the high running costs or the heavy weight. The ride is typically described as sharp and exciting because the bike feels very light and responsive. The upside down forks provide great stability and a planted feel when you are leaning into corners You probably notice that the engine is very refined and stays smooth until the variable valve actuation kicks in around seven thousand rpm giving you a sudden boost of power. The seating position is upright which is great for visibility and comfort in city traffic although the seat can feel a bit firm on longer journeys. Overall it is a bike that makes every short trip feel like a bit of an adventure because of how quickly it reacts to your inputs. The Yamaha MT 15 V2 is a great choice because it gives you high end technology like a slipper clutch and upside down forks in a small and manageable package. The engine uses the same high performance DNA found in the R15 which means you get incredible speed and acceleration for its class while still getting amazing fuel mileage It is also one of the best looking bikes on the road with an aggressive design that turns heads everywhere Another big plus is the upright riding position which makes it much more comfortable for daily commuting than a standard sport bike It is basically the perfect combination of a practical city bike and a thrilling performance machine that is easy to maintain and hold its value well over time.

      Refined 155cc beast
Compared to other segment bikes its the most aggressive and refined bike I have ever riden, the weight of this bike is so light that even the mentioned torque and bhp seems not to be true, the power delivery of the bike is so responsive and the tech is so advance that the torque push can be felt post 7500 rpm. I own this bike for more than 5 years and never disappointed in this machine, the refinement and reliability of this engine is commendable. Kudos to Yamaha. The comfort level is not that great and wont recommend for pillion either unless you change the seat cushions, rest the riding posture is very comfortable and little bit aggressive which is a positive for cruising and aggressive riding. Overall comfortable and no such complaints for daily commute, for long rides, solo rides are comfortable but pillion rider will feel the discomfort. I would definitely recommend this bike for all the beginners who wants to flaunt the looks and aggression of entry level sports naked, It was my first bike and best decision of my life. Great mileage with ample of power.

      MT 15 Toruk Macto
I always liked naked body bikes, I heard from my friend and did a test drive on my friend's bike, the speed, torque and power I felt while riding it is absolutely fantastic, also though the bike is small in size I easily controlled it, the looks are also very aggressive and cool, pricing is average for this 155cc ranged bike also I felt the gear shifting is excellent and smooth. smooth feelings while riding this bike made me choose it. The ride is very smooth so far, the small size and light weight of this bike is very easy to balance, I felt like it does give good mileage on highway, although the mileage it gives in city must be improved, maintenance is also necessary time to time, The suspension is quite good but on big humps or pot holes it gives a shock of vibration but its alright. Yes, I would recommend this bike to anyone willing to buy a bike under 2lakh and want a bike with excellent powerful performance, mostly those who want to reach destinations faster with a smooth riding experience should choose this bike and I will recommend them.
