Vespa Scooter arrives again after 13 years in India

Piaggio bikes company launched its Vespa model for the second time in 2012 at Auto Expo for the second time. First it was showcased at Autocar performance show at Mumbai in 2011. Now Piaggio Vespa LX 125 will be on sale from March 2012. Piaggio also showcased accessories like helmets, caps, jackets, and bags at 2012 Auto Expo. These accessories will be available at the Vespa show rooms and also with Vespa dealers. Piaggio company is creating a dealership network base across India. Piaggio is getting ready to for a formal launch sometime in the first week of March 2012. The exact price of this vehicle is not clear yet, but there are news inputs that it might be around 60K. The Piaggio will have only Vespa scooters on display at their show rooms and will not show case Aprilia in the show room.

Piaggio Vespa LX 125

Piaggio company has returned to Indian two-wheeler automobile segment after a long time span of 13 years. Piaggio entered Indian market by joining hands with Bajaj Auto Ltd and the partnership was broken in 1971. Later Piaggio joined its hands with LML motors in 1983 for manufacturing and selling Vespa Scooters in India. This venture also ended when in 1999, when LML acquired complete stake of Vespa. Now Piaggio Vespa is all set to enter Indian roads.

The first scooter that Piaggio bikes is offering to the Indian buyers is Piaggio Vespa LX125. Vespa LX125 is an automatic scooter, with 125cc engine. Piaggio Vespa LX125 engine is a four-stroke engine, which has 10.7 bhp, and comes with a torque of 9.7 Nm. Vespa LX125 will be fitted with disc brakes in the front, for better braking ability. Vespa scooter will be manufactured at the facility center in Baramati in Maharashtra. This center will have the capacity of manufacturing 1.5 lakh scooters per year.
