The scooter made its debut at this year’s Auto Expo, and is likely to be launched next month

It is now confirmed that the upcoming Hero Duet 125cc scooter has been renamed as the Destini 125, going by the spy shots that have surfaced recently. The scooter has been developed from the ground up by Hero, and intends to grab a share of the ever-growing 125cc scooter segment. Another Hero scooter, the Maestro 125 also made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo and we expect the bikemaker to launch both of these scooters next month.

Powering the Destini 125 is a 124.6cc single-cylinder motor that’s good for 8.7PS and 10.2Nm. It works in conjunction with a CVT unit, and the powertrain is shared by the Maestro 125 as well. The scooter features i3S too, a first for a scooter, as this tech was limited to Hero motorcycles only till now. i3S switches off the engine when idling in traffic to conserve fuel. Other notable practical bits include a bootlight and an underseat charging port.

In line with the outgoing Duet’s design language, the Destini 125 also has a sober styling, with halogen headlamp and LED taillamp. The instrument cluster is an analogue-digital unit, and the fuel filler cap is external, for added convenience. To make it look premium, Hero has equipped the scooter with body-coloured rearview mirrors. There’s a bit of chrome on the side body panels too.

The Destini 125 rides on telescopic front forks, a single shock absorber at the rear, and comes to a halt using drum brakes on both ends, with Integrated Braking system. It will lock horns with the Suzuki Access 125 (Rs 55,459), Honda Grazia (Rs 59,622) and the TVS NTorq (Rs 59,687) (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). The Grazia offers a much more modern styling, coupled with an LED headlamp. On the other hand, the TVS NTorq offers a ton of features - one of them being smartphone connectivity. It makes the NTorq the only scooter in the segment to have this feature currently. We expect Hero to price the upcoming scooter at around Rs 55,000.
