One appears to be touring-focused while the other seems to be more off-road-oriented

  • Contrary to earlier reports, new spy shots reveals UM might bring two different models.
  • Both are likely to be powered by the same 196cc single-cylinder engine.
  • Once launched, they will compete against the Hero XPulse 200 and the XPulse 200T.

Back in December 2018, images and specifications of UM Motorcycle’s upcoming adventure bike, the DSR 200, were leaked online. Now, six months later, new spy images indicate that the company might bring not one but two motorcycles in the next few weeks.

The two bikes share a similar design language but seem to be sporting completely different attributes. One of them seems to be more touring-focused, with a compact windscreen, alloy wheels and a high-mounted front fender.

The other motorcycle is more off-road-oriented with a larger front wheel, spoked rims, larger windscreen and dual-purpose tyres. Also, unlike the touring-focused model, the off-road variant does not sport a front beak.

As per earlier leaked specifications, braking hardware here consists of disc brakes at both ends and single-channel ABS. The touring-focused model also gets a 780mm saddle, a 14-litre fuel tank and 17-inch alloys shod with tubeless tyres. However, the off-road-spec variant appears to be comparatively taller and sporting a 21-inch front wheel.

Both the motorcycles might sport the same 196cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine which makes 16.2PS of power and 16Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission. For comparison, the Hero XPulse 200 and the 200T are powered by a 199.6cc engine which generates 18.4PS of power and 17.1Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed transmission.

Earlier reports suggested that the motorcycle will be priced in the range of Rs 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom). If true, this will be a significant premium over the Hero XPulse twins. We will be sure to bring up all the updates leading up to the launch, so stay tuned for further details.
