Generally used in commuter motorcycles and cruisers, dual shock absorbers, as the name suggests, consist of two shockers for better absorption of bumps while riding. Dual shock absorbers are considered the most cost-effective and easy-to-repair setups among all rear suspensions.
Dual shock absorbers have two prime components – springs and dampers. The springs absorb the force of the rear wheel moving upward while hitting a bump or pothole, which retracts to its original position after the obstacle is crossed. The dampers, which sit inside the springs, help in slowing down the movement of the spring when compressing or decompressing - literally "damping" the sudden up and down motions of the springs.
Dual shocks are commonly used because the provide even damping force on either side of swingarm, reducing the chances of it flexing under uneven loads. They also allow for relatively cheaper and thinner swingarms to be used, where as a monoshock setup requires a much sturdier, and more expensive, swingarm.
