TVS Racing Appoints Its First Woman Rider

Shreya Iyer creates history by becoming the first female racer to join a factory team for the Indian National Rally championship

With a dream of making a career in motorsports, Shreya Sunder Iyer started riding at the age of 17 and today she has become the first woman rider in the TVS Racing Team. The young girl is also the first ever Indian woman rider to compete in international rallies in Dubai, and now becomes the first woman in the country to ride as a factory rider in the (INRC) Indian National Rally Championship. The 2016 season of the INRC kicks off on April 30.

Shreya Said, "I am proud to be a part of the TVS Racing team. TVS Racing is by far the best Indian racing team with the best motorbikes and trainers. This association will help me work with the best in class machines, racers and technology. I also hope to encourage young bikers, especially women to follow their passion for racing and live their dreams."

Apart from her competitive riding in rallies in India and abroad, Shreya has also ridden widely across India. She has also completed a rigorous Southern India biking expedition, covering 2000 kms in 6 days. Working as a freelance designer, Shreya is a graduate from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore and also a trained classical singer and dancer.

Speaking on the joining of the new rider, Arvind Pangaonkar, Head of Team TVS Racing said, “We are happy to sign Shreya for the TVS Racing team and believe her participation will encourage women to consider racing as a career. TVS Racing is strongly committed to promote two-wheeler racing in India and generate interest and improve support for the sport in India. We make continuous efforts to take the sport to as many section of the society as possible and create the ultimate machine and promote the riders for these machines.”
