Last week, Triumph launched the Thruxton 400, a retro-styled cafe racer. The bike is priced at Rs 2,74,137 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and has started arriving at dealerships. In fact, the deliveries of the bike have also commenced. According to our sources, the bike is readily available in Pune, but delivery procedure might take up to 10 days once the payment is completed. Expect the deliveries in other major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Mumbai and Chennai to commence in phase-wise manner in the coming weeks, with waiting period ranging from 3-45 days.
The Triumph Thruxton 400 is the only cafe racer in India from the British brand. The bike gets a neo-retro design with a semi-fairing, a circular LED headlamp, and a sculpted fuel tank. It also gets a committed riding position with clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs, and a single-piece seat that comes with a removable pillion cowl. While its engine is shared with the Speed 400, it’s slightly more powerful and comes in a sportier tune. The suspension is also tuned to be sportier than the Speed 400.
We think the bike is priced quite well, sitting between the Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 XC in the British bikemaker’s 400cc family. If you’re someone who loves retro styling but wants a performance-oriented bike with great value for money and premium looks, then the Thruxton 400 ticks all the right boxes. That said, you’ll have to beware of its sporty riding posture that may not be comfortable for everyday commutes in heavy traffic. It’s more of a lifestyle product, and is an ideal secondary bike in your garage for your weekend getaways.
The Thruxton is the only cafe racer in its segment and doesn’t have any natural rivals. That said, you can check out the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 in the segment above. It is a bit more expensive but comes with a much bigger, more refined parallel-twin engine. It’s also a lot heavier.
