Suzuki Gixxer 250 Price, Engine, Underpinnings & More: What To Expect?

Suzuki’s naked quarter-litre streetfighter is all set to be launched pretty soon and here’s what we can expect from the upcoming bike

Few months back, we had reported that Suzuki is working on a naked version of the Gixxer SF 250. And then in June, brochure scans of the upcoming motorcycle leaked online, confirming its launch in the pipeline. The bike is most likely to be called the Gixxer 250, and it marks Suzuki’s second innings in the naked quarter-litre motorcycle segment in India after the Inazuma which was a sales disaster. Here’s what we expect from the upcoming bike:

When will it be available & how much will it cost?

We expect Suzuki to launch the naked bike in July or August. And, going by the leaked brochure images, the motorcycle is pretty much production-ready. So we believe it is just a matter of timing for the Japanese brand. As for the cost, expect Suzuki to price it at around Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom). This would make the motorcycle more affordable than its faired sibling by around Rs 15,000. 

How will it look?

Suzuki has employed an all-new design language which is common for both the new 2019 Gixxer SF and the Gixxer SF 250. Recently, the 2019 Gixxer’s (155cc bike) brochure scans leaked online, and we expect Suzuki to use the same design theme for its quarter-litre sibling as well. Additionally, the brochure images of the Gixxer 250 reveal muscular fuel tank extensions,  a wide single-piece handlebar for more upright ergonomics and an engine cowl. The alloy wheel design remains the same as its faired version and expect the design of the tail section to be shared as well. Also, the motorcycle is likely to feature split seat configuration for an added dose of sportiness.

What kind of features will it get?

Expect the bike to come with the same fully-digital negative LCD instrument cluster as the Gixxer SF 250. It displays the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, dual trip meters, gear position indicator, fuel gauge, service interval, oil change indicators and a shift light apart from the tell-tale lights. The bike will get an LED headlamp and tail lamp too. However, expect the indicators to be of bulb type, just like how it is in the Gixxer SF 250.

The leaked images also hint at a range of accessories that will be available with the motorcycle as options. For starters, Suzuki could offer knuckle guards for a more rugged look. There could also be crash guards, rim tapes and tank stickers, all of which would be offered as accessories.

What about the engine?

Suzuki has had a history of sharing the same engine in both the naked and faired variants. A perfect example of this is the previous-generation Gixxer SF and current Gixxer. And the Japanese brand is likely to plonk in the Gixxer SF 250’s powertrain in the naked motorcycle. In the faired bike, the 249cc single-cylinder SOHC oil-cooled, fuel-injected engine produces 26.5PS at 9000rpm and 22.6Nm at 7500rpm. Expect the Japanese bikemaker to carry the engine in the same state of tune in the streetfighter as well. It works alongside a 6-speed transmission in the SF which is likely to be carried over as well. Sadly, there’s no slipper clutch on offer and we expect the same with the Gixxer 250 too.

And the underpinnings?

Suzuki is most likely to use the same telescopic fork up front and rear monoshock as the Gixxer SF 250. The naked bike is also most likely to get the same 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 110-section front and 150-section rear radial tyres on both ends. Radial tyres are better than conventional ones because they have stiffer sidewalls and a more rounded profile. This allows greater cornering angles and gives more confidence to the rider while cornering. Even the braking hardware will be carried forward and the 2019 Gixxer 250 will get dual-channel ABS.
