Does the Simple Wave S EBN come with compromises? We analyse:

    Simple Wave S EBN

Simple Energy recently launched its most affordable electric scooter, the Wave. The Wave S EBN 2.2kWh variant, in particular, has an aggressive introductory price of Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). We analyse all the aspects of this family-friendly electric scooter to see if it is worth it:

    Design & Styling

    Simple Wave S EBN Design

Visually, you're not losing much, even on the base variant. The Simple Wave S EBN shares the same attractive, dolphin-inspired design as its more expensive variants. You will get the flowing silhouette, the wave motif on the side panels, and the distinctive cast mirrors. The scooter gets the full-LED lighting package, and the smile-shaped LED DRL looks rather nice. However, your colour choices are slightly limited. The Wave S EBN is available in two options (Pearl White & Dolphin Grey), while the pricier Wave and Wave+ models get additional shades.

    Motor, Battery and Range

This is where the biggest differences lie. The Wave S EBN is powered by a smaller 4.5kW motor, a noticeable step down from the 6.4kW unit found in all other Wave variants. This results in a lower top speed of 70kmph. The battery pack is a 2.2kWh unit, which Simple Energy claims delivers an IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range of 110km. While decent for city use, it's less than half the 243km range of the top-spec Wave+.

    Convenience Features

For a scooter priced just over Rs 1 lakh, the feature list is reasonably good. Instead of the 7-inch TFT screen on pricier models, the Wave S EBN gets a 5-inch LCD console. This unit still supports Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call/SMS alerts via the Simple Connect app.

More importantly, you get  the same generous underseat storage that’s big enough to accommodate a full-sized helmet, while still leaving enough space for other smaller items. Plus, there’s also a smaller 4-litre lockable compartment on the side to store things like an umbrella or a water bottle.

    Safety Features

The Wave S EBN misses out on Traction Control, but that’s not really a deal-breaker on a family-oriented electric scooter.  Furthermore, Super Hold (a hill-hold function) is listed as being "available in select variants," which almost certainly means it's not included at this entry-level price point. However, safety features tied to the app, such as Drop Safe (which cuts motor power in a fall) is available on this variant. But Theft & Tow Alerts aren't there on this variant.

Simple Wave S EBN Side Look

The Simple Wave S EBN 2.2kWh variant is a decent choice if you’re looking for an affordable, practical electric scooter that looks a bit different from the rest. It’s also got a reasonable set of features, and more importantly, a large underseat storage, making commutes and grocery runs an easy affair.
