River Indie Electric Scooter: Priced At Rs 1,38,000 (ex-showroom)

River Indie is the brand’s only electric scooter currently, River calls it the ‘SUV of Scooters’ as it comes with a very practical and utilitarian design. It looks rugged yet funky. Available in a single variant, the e-scooter comes in three colours: Monsoon Blue, Summer Red and Spring Yellow.

The Indie is driven by a mid-mounted electric motor that produces a peak power of 6.7kW and 26Nm. The electric scooter accelerates from 0 to 40kmph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 90kmph. It also gets three riding modes: Eco, Ride, and Rush. The motor is linked to a 4kWh battery pack and delivers an IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range of 161km. The scooter takes 5 hours to charge from 0 to 80 percent from an 800W charger.

The scooter is equipped with funky-looking twin square LED headlights with LED DRLs (daytime running lights), it gets LED tail lights and indicators as well. It features a 6-inch colour LCD console that provides basic information like speedometer, odometer, tripmeter, range, clock and basic tell-tale lights. It also comes with two USB charging ports and has a reverse mode as well. Storage options include a 12-litre glovebox at the apron and a big 43-litre underseat storage.

The Indie sits on a steel tubular double cradle chassis with a dual-side aluminium swingarm. It gets a telescopic fork and preload-adjustable twin rear shocks. Braking is handled by a 249mm front disc and a 200mm rear disc, with CBS (Combined Braking System) as standard. The electric scooter rides on 14-inch alloys, wrapped with 110-section front and 120-section rear tyres. The River Indie has a 770mm seat height and a ground clearance of 165mm, the scooter has a 300mm water-wading capacity.

The River Indie rivals other premium electric scooters including the Ather Rizta, Ola S1 Pro, Hero Vida V1, and the TVS iQube Electric. We have tested the Indie electric scooter in the real world and here’s what we think.
