Ola Diamondhead Teased Ahead Of August 15 Launch

Ola Electric has teased the working prototype of its upcoming Diamondhead electric motorcycle on social media, marking the first time the bike has been seen outside of concept form. 

Not A Concept Anymore

Originally revealed as a futuristic design study in August 2023, the Ola Diamondhead’s latest appearance shows that development has moved into the road-testing phase. With Ola’s major product showcase scheduled for Independence Day 2025 (August 15), the bike could be launched at the event.

Design

The Ola Diamondhead’s striking appearance is defined by a sharp, diamond-shaped fairing, a continuous LED headlight strip stretching across the front, and clip-on handlebars. In many ways, it looks like a Tesla Cybertruck on two wheels.

Underpinnings

The most unusual element on this Ola Electric bike is the oversized front swingarm, suggesting the use of a hub-center steering system instead of traditional forks - a rare and unusual choice. Compared to a fork, a hub-center steering system is designed to offer better stability and handling. But on the flip side, they may not offer as direct steering feel as a simple fork-mounted handlebar.

It also has a lot more complex moving parts, and is more expensive to make. That said, you can’t deny how cool it looks, and more importantly, it looks right at home on a futuristic-looking electric bike like the Diamondhead. It will most likely also get a belt drive system, though chain drive is not out of the question just yet.

Rivals & Launch Timeline

Expected to be priced around Rs 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom), the Diamondhead will target the premium electric sports bike segment, competing directly with the Ultraviolette F77. That said, Ola has had the history of announcing the prices of its EVs much before the deliveries actually begin. Similarly, the deliveries of the Diamondhead could take a few months. Ola might want to make use of this time to test the bike properly before it starts heading to the dealerships.

Now with the brand planning to make its own battery packs, we hope the Diamondhead comes with an impressive claimed range.
