We could see a new maxi-scooter, a commuter and even a utility-focused one!

The Ather EL platform was recently unveiled at Ather Community Day 2025. The brand also showed its first scooter concept from this new platform called the EL01. Ather claims that this platform will be used to build multiple scooters in different genres. We explain how this platform works and what kind of scooters we might see in the near future.

    Ather EL Platform

The new Ather EL platform will have a few shared components in all the scooters based on it, but also a few unique ones based on the respective e-scooter’s genre. The common parts will be the main frame, which is a unibody tubular steel unit with a floorboard-mounted battery pack. The motor and electrical wiring will also be the same across the different variants. We expect the brand to use the same 6.4kW motor that has been used in the Ather 450X. However, how the motor delivers its power might change according to the scooter type. The brand claims that with these changes, the scooters will be easier and cheaper to manufacture.

Another interesting change that the brand has brought is the addition of a new Ather Charge Drive Controller. This device will help in saving a lot of storage space by replacing the bulky charger with a simple electrical charging wire. This means customers won’t have to worry about carrying a charger, eating up the precious underseat storage. The brand has managed to do this by using the motor’s AC/DC converter to convert electrical current while charging, thus eliminating the need for a charger-based converter.

    Ather EL01 Family Scooter

The first scooter from the new platform is the Ather EL01, which is a simple family-oriented scooter. It has a typical family scooter design with a bulky look overall, and feels like an evolution of the Ather Rizta. Although Ather has not revealed the specs, we expect this scooter to get the aforementioned motor, but with a battery pack ranging from 2kWh to 5kWh.

The scooter will have a TFT console, which should offer a lot of features from the upcoming Ather Stack 7 software. We can expect voice assist, along with the usual full-fledged navigation via Google Maps. The e-scooter could also offer the usual riding aids such as a reverse mode and hill-hold assist.

    Upcoming EL Scooters

The subframe, wheel sizes and battery capacities could vary, and this means that the brand can churn out multiple scooters in different genres. Ather had revealed that they would be working on a maxi-style scooter with 14-inch wheels and a battery capacity of 5kWh, a commuter with 12-inch wheels and a 2kWh battery pack. There was also a mention of a utility-focused scooter for small business owners as well.

We expect the scooters to be launched by March 2026, with the production version of the EL01 being the first model in this lineup. We expect it to be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). The scooter could be even more affordable if Ather offers it with a Battery-as-a-Subscription (BaaS) scheme.
