Mahindra Two Wheelers receive award in Operational Excellence

The emerging Indian two wheeler manufacturer, Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd. (MTWL), has won the 1st Runner Up award for a case study on ‘Operational Excellence’ at Indizen 2014.

 

 

 

Indizen 2014 is an annual National Convention on “Operational Excellence” organized by the Kaizen Institute of India. The fifth edition saw participation by more than 45 companies who presented their case studies on efforts to drive Operational Excellence resulting in productivity, quality and delivery gains. The Kaizen Institute of India is a global organisation which provides consulting services to companies in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and America.

 

 

Mr. Praveen Singh Tomar and Mr. Pulkit Gupta from Mahindra Two Wheelers presented a case study on ‘Operational Excellence in Engine Assembly’ for the Mahindra Centuro which won the 1st runner up award, as well as a cash prize.

 

 

 

Speaking on the accolade, Mr. Nirmal Matharu, Senior Vice President & Plant Head, Mahindra Two Wheelers said, “Our thrust on operational excellence has ensured the highest level of quality across our product range and this award is yet another recognition of our efforts in this area.”

 

 

The Mahindra Centuro motorcycle which has been designed entirely in-house at the company’s world-class, state-of-the-art R&D Centre in Pune continues to receive a strong customer response and has been one of the most successful bikes in its segment and has won several accolades including the AutoBild India, Golden Steering Award, Bike of the Year, “Commuter Bike of the Year” from Zigwheels, “Bike of the Year” by Bike India, “Viewers Choice of the Year” by Bloomberg TV India Autocar India, People’s Choice Bike of the Year by Vicky.in, and the coveted Bike Maker of the Year 2013 award from DNA.

 

 

 

The Centuro sports a host of internationally patented category innovations and features like Anti-Theft Alarm with Engine Immobilizer, an encrypted Remote Flip Key, Find Me Lamps and Guide Lamps, all of which have been developed in-house. The bike also offers an advanced Digital Dashboard with a Distance–to-Empty (DTE) indicator, Service Reminder and Economy Mode indicator.

 

 

The motorcycle is powered by Mahindra’s indigenously developed intelligent MCi-5 (Micro Chip ignited-5 curve) engine that responds smartly to the need for power and fuel economy, delivering a power output of 8.5 BHP @ 7500 rpm, 8.5 Nm of peak torque @ 5500 rpm and an astounding mileage of 85.4 kmpl (ARAI). A maintenance free battery and 5 year warranty ensure peace of mind for the owner.
