Is This A TVS Creon Transformed Into TVS Jupiter Electric?

With Bajaj joining the EV fray with the Chetak, can arch rival TVS be far behind?

A test mule of what looks like the TVS Jupiter Electric has been spotted in Hosur, which is where TVS’ headquarters is located. Going by the spy shots, the scooter gets a sporty apron, similar to the TVS NTorq 125 and the Honda Dio. However, the rear of the scooter comes with a bulbous bodywork, which has a characteristic Jupiter feel to it. 

In the TVS Creon concept, the motor was capable of generating 12kW of power, which could propel the scooter from 0-60kmph in 5.1 seconds. However, this electric scooter looks pretty family-oriented, so expect it to offer performance comparable to a 110cc petrol-powered scooter. That said, TVS is always known for its racing genes, so the upcoming electric scooter could do slightly better in terms of performance when compared to the Bajaj Chetak electric.

The Creon concept came with an 80km claimed range, so expect the upcoming TVS Jupiter Electric to offer a similar range as well. Expect the battery pack to be non-removable to keep the costs in check. It is unknown whether the battery will be capable of fast charging like the Creon, but we’ll be stoked if TVS indeed offers it in the Jupiter Electric.

The alloy wheels look like 12-inchers at both ends. The front disc brake is likely to be a 220mm unit, since the alloy wheel as well as the disc brake design is similar to the one on the Jupiter. Suspension bits include a telescopic front fork and a single shock absorber at the rear. While the rear brake isn’t visible, it is likely to be a drum unit. 

The instrument console appears to be larger than usual. It could either be something similar to the TVS NTorq 125 (LCD cluster) or a proper TFT screen like the one in the Creon. Expect it to display crucial details like remaining range, speed and battery level. We wouldn’t be surprised if it featured smartphone connectivity like the Creon as that seems to be the new norm for modern electric two-wheelers. Here’s an interesting tidbit: the connected technology in the Creon concept was developed in collaboration with Intel. So if TVS still has ties with the brand, expect that to show up in the Jupiter Electric.

The TVS Jupiter Electric scooter is likely to be launched in the festive season this year. Expect it to cost around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom), going up against the Bajaj Chetak Electric and the Ather 450 e-scooter. Like Bajaj, TVS will also have the distinct advantage of having a greater presence across the country, something Ather lacks. However, TVS is expected to launch the scooter in a phase-wise manner as the electric segment is still in its infancy. Will TVS come up with its own infrastructure for its upcoming electric scooter? Only time will tell.
