All the important details about Hyosung's new Honda Rebel rival

When we think of cruisers and bobbers, the first nation to pop to mind is America. Others have followed suit, and we now have cruisers from Japanese, British and even European brands, but you don't often think of Korea when discussing this genre of motorcycle. Hyosung is aiming to change that with its new GV300S Bobber, which squares up against the popular Honda Rebel 300. Here's everything you need to know about this mean machine:

    Not Hyosung's First Cruiser

Auto Expo - Hyosung Aquila 250 launched at INR 2.69 lakhs

The GV300S is the newest cruiser in Hyosung's current lineup, but it's by no means the only one. The Korean brand's Aquila range of cruisers covers everything from 125cc to 650cc, and some models were even sold in India at one point. In fact, the Aquila 250 has, in all likelihood, provided the basis for this new 300cc model.

    Terrific Twins

The one engine configuration that embodies the essence of cruisers is the characterful V-twin. Just as well, then, that this is what powers the GV300S. It's a liquid and air-cooled 296cc 8-valve SOHC unit that utilises fuel-injection. Output stands at 30PS and 25.6Nm which actually makes it more powerful than the Rebel 300!

    Bobber Design

Hyosung GV300S Bobber Launched In Europe. India-bound? - Bike ...

The butch bobber design language seems to have been inspired by certain Harley-Davidson Sportster models like the Iron 883. There's a chunky, downward swooping fuel tank that leads into a neat, stepped seat unit. Short fenders with a chopped look further add to the bobber appeal and this bike has a relaxed  stance without looking lazy.

    Under The Surface

The GV300S is held together by a double downtube frame and removable rear subframe. Suspension duties are handled by a conventional 35mm telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers, though there doesn't seem to be any adjustability on offer. In terms of braking hardware, the GV300S gets disc brakes at both ends: a 270mm unit up front bitten by a 4-piston caliper and a 250mm unit at the rear grabbed by a twin-piston caliper.

    India Plans?

Pricing has always been Hyosung's strong suit, so in order to help it take on the likes of the Rebel 300, expect the GV300S to be priced at around $4000 (Rs 3.02 lakh) in international markets. As fas as India is concerned, the Korean manufacturer's partnership with DSK came to an end when it was sold off to Kinetic Motoroyale, and the brand hasn't sold any bikes in India ever since. But if it were to ever make a comeback, we're quite sure the GV300S will be on the list.
