Hero MotoCorp gave India’s best-selling bike, the Splendor Plus, a new variant called the Xtec. We tested the commuter bike thoroughly, and were pretty impressed with its real world mileage. Here’s what it achieved in our tests:

We simulated a real world traffic scenario in the city by riding the motorcycle at an average speed of 25-30kmph in second and third gear for a distance of a little over 75km. Out on the highway, an average speed of 55kmph was maintained for a distance of 100km.
The small 97.2cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine shone the brightest with just around 5kmpl shy of reaching the 100kmpl mark! Do note that our tester weighs around 75kg, and we use regular fuel for our runs.
With the 9.8-litre fuel tank filled to the brim, you can get anywhere between 800km and 900km riding range, which should be more than enough for everyday commutes.
Riding efficiently majorly depends on how sensitive your throttle input is. Gradual acceleration and deceleration while keeping the engine slotted in the appropriate gear will go a long way in improving its fuel efficiency. One will also have to ensure the motorcycle is maintained properly, and the tyres are inflated to the recommended pressures. These aspects will help extract the best mileage out of a motorcycle.
