The popularity of EVs is increasing by the day, with more and more electric two-wheelers entering the market, offering consumers a variety of options. On that note, let’s find out how the Hero Electric Photon HX and Ampere Magnus EX, e-scooters by two desi EV manufacturers, fare against each other.

In terms of appearance, the Hero Electric Photon HX adopts a neo-retro styling with a design that is clean, simple and minimal. It further accentuates the retro appeal with a circular headlight set up and oval shaped indicators.

The Ampere Magnus EX, on the other hand, employs more of a sporty look with edgier and sharper body panels. It gets an LED headlight set up, fascia mounted DRLs and turn indicators. Even on the sides, the e-scooter has lines running across the body to complement the sporty appeal.

Powering the Photon HX is a 1200W BLDC motor, producing peak power of 1.8kW. It is paired to a 72V 26Ah battery pack that takes about five hours to completely juice up. The e-scooter has a claimed top speed of 45kmph and offers a claimed range of 108km IDC.

The Ampere Magnus EX is powered by a 60V 28Ah removable lithium-ion battery, which requires about seven hours to fully charge. It is paired to a 1200 Watt electric motor that lends the Magnus EX a top speed of 50kmph, and a 0-40kmph acceleration time of 10 seconds. The e-scooter gets an ARAI tested range of 121km.

Both the scooters get a fully digital instrument cluster, remote lock and anti theft alarm. Additional features on the Magnus EX include an LED headlight surrounded by chrome embellishments, two riding modes (Eco and Power) and vehicle locator. The Photon HX also features regenerative braking.

Both the scooters are suspended on a conventional telescopic fork up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Even the braking hardware on both the e-scooters is the same with drum brakes on both ends with combined braking system (CBS).

Summing up, even though the Ampere Magnus EX gets slightly more features and better specs compared to its rival, it is more affordable at Rs 73,999, whereas the Hero Electric Photon HX is priced at Rs 80,790 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
