The confirmation comes straight from company chairman Pawan Munjal

Work on its electric projects is already underway at the firm’s Centre Of Innovation & Technology in Jaipur The company has also made a sizeable investment in Ather Energy.  We might see something coming out of Hero’s electric lineup at the Auto Expo 2020.

In what can be considered a fitting reply to NITI Aayog’s recent query to manufacturers, Hero MotoCorp has confirmed that it is working on several EV projects. The confirmation comes straight from company chairman Pawan Munjal, who announced it in the company’s recent annual shareholder meeting.

Munjal was quoted saying, "The entire world is adopting the global mobility trends of electrification (EVs), shared mobility and connected two-wheelers. The company is working on several EV projects and is fully geared up for this challenge."

While the company is yet to disclose the roadmap of its own electric offerings, it has so far made a sizeable investment in Ather Energy. "Hero MotoCorp intends to enhance its participation in the EV space by pursuing its internal EV programme in addition to partnering with Ather," Munjal said.

He further added "We, therefore, propose a more cautious, clear and realistic roadmap towards the adoption of EVs. The scale and timing of the adoption need prudent deliberations and we will gladly support all stakeholders in this process."

So what could this mean? Considering the bandwidth and resources Hero has, we could see a new electric platform coming rolling off the factory floors very soon. We suspect the company might showcase a couple of electric concepts at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020.
