The new electric cruiser promises a range close to 160km and can charge up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes

Hadin Panther Electric Cruiser

  • Hadin is an American electric bikemaker that traces its origins to China.
  • It looks like a proper cruiser and has a laid-back riding stance.
  • It has a 45kW electric motor and a claimed top speed of around 130kmph.
  • Gets features like front and rear HD cameras, TFT colour screen, smartphone connectivity and keyless start.

When it comes to electric cruisers, the world currently does not have much choice. Even traditional cruiser maker Harley Davidson has just one electric product, the LiveWire. But it looks more like a roadster than a laid back cruiser. Indian Motorcycles has none. Enter American bikemaker Hadin Motorcycles who will be unveiling the Panther electric cruiser at the EICMA 2019.

Hadin Motorcycles was registered as an American motorcycle company in by Suzhou Wonder-Tech Co, a Chinese company. Interestingly a brief Google search on Suzhou Wonder-Tech Co reveals it as a funeral casket maker with no links to electric or motorcycle technology. However, going by the images, the Hadin Panther does appear to be a legit motorcycle. We would treat this piece of news with caution, however, given the earlier debacle with another electric bikemaker aka master prankster, Druid Motorcycles.

The Panther, in proper cruiser motorcycle style, has a laid-back riding position and lots of chrome. It’s low-slung and gets authentic cruiser-oriented bits like full-sized fenders, swept-back handlebars, a swooping fuel tank, low ground clearance, long wheelbase and floorboards instead of footpegs.

Instead of performance, Hadin focuses more on the battery, especially charging times. It gets a Panasonic 18650 lithium-ion battery which can be charged up to 80 percent in 30 minutes with the help of a fast charger. Regular charging requires 6 to 8 hours to fully charge. The electric motor is said to develop close to 45kW. We don’t expect the Hadin Panther to offer serious performance given its approximately 270kg weight and the claimed 130kmph top speed seems to confirm it.

The Hadin Panther does not disappoint in the features department though, getting all-LED lighting, a colour TFT instrument console, smartphone connectivity and keyless start. It even has front and rear integrated HD cameras, arguably a first for an electric cruiser.

India currently has a favourable climate for electric scooters and motorcycles, with startups offering us a fully connected electric scooter, an entry-level electric bike and even an upcoming electric superbike. We also had USA-based UM Motorcycles who showcased the Thor electric cruiser at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, that will not happen since UM has ceased operations in India.
