Fastest Quarter-Mile Wheelie Record Set By Bajaj Pulsar NS 200

And with that, Indian two-wheeler stunt legend Hrishi Mandke found his way into the India Book of Records.

And with that, Indian two-wheeler stunt legend Hrishi Mandke found his way into the India Book of Records.

Words: Priyadarshan Bawikar

The Bajaj Pulsar has been pretty synonymous with stunt-riding ever since the bike first came into existence two decades ago. Thanks to plenty of performance on tap and an accessible price point, it has been the bike of choice for those seeking their thrills with wheelies, stoppies and other daredevilry. So, it’s a bit surprising that it took this long for someone to set an official Indian stunting record with ‘The World’s Favourite Indian’.

So it was to be, that earlier this year, Pune-based rider extraordinaire Hrishi Mandke took on the challenge of clocking India’s Fastest Quarter-Mile Wheelie aboard a Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. And now, it’s official - ratified by the India Book of Records - that Hrishi covered 402.3 metres (1/4th mile) on one wheel in just 23.68 seconds! This record attempt, organised by Evo India magazine under the adjudication of the FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Club of India) and the India Book of Records, took place on a blocked-off runway at the Baramati Airstrip near Pune.

The blue-and-white Pulsar NS 200 that Hrishi rode was bone stock, except for the removal of the rear number plate holder and mudguard. That’s because, over practice runs, these were found to scrape the tarmac when the bike got close to vertical during the wheelie. The rear-view mirrors were removed in the interest of safety, giving Hrishi’s hands a little more freedom of movement while holding the bike up on one wheel. Motor-wise, everything was untouched, with the 199.5cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine making 24.5PS and 18.5Nm.

Hrishi, undoubtedly chuffed with his achievement, spoke about his love for the Pulsar. “I learnt to perform stunts on the first-generation Bajaj Pulsar,” he said, “and I’m delighted to wheelie into the record books with the Pulsar NS 200.”

the best ever

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is one of India’s most popular 200 cc streetfighter motorcycles, known for its powerful engine and sporty character. It’s powered by a 199.5 cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve DTS-i engine that makes around 24.1–24.5 PS of power and ~18.7 Nm of torque, paired with a smooth 6-speed gearbox that delivers strong acceleration and a top speed near 140 km/h, making it fun for both city rides and highway cruising.Read More

The underrated gem

The first gen 200ns was the bike I fell in love with back then, so I always wanted one and hence got the current version of the bike. Apart from that the character of the engine and mainly the muscular timeless design and the sound...! The ride until now has been pretty pretty good, Yes there are some nacks here n there in terms of the build quality, fit n finish and some minor vibration aroun fron visor and rear seat, But the bike feels soo much emgaging to ride, everytime I'm on the bike it wants me to rev the engine all the way, and I find myself smiling inside my helmet. the major chunk of power comes above 6k rpm and that's where all the fun starts. All though the engine is much much more refined than the original 200ns but still you can feel that aggresive character in it. I feel the braking could have been better specially the organic brake pads, I think bybre was much better. And the abs kicks in a bit sooner than needed. In terms of handling this bike is such a gem, with the new usd forks its better than ever, the bike feels so like yet so stable on highways and once you get it into corners, then you can actually unleash the full potential of this machine, the chassis and dynamics are so good, the bike just flows into corners, I think bajaj can do better job for tyres as well, the bike demands 110 and 140 sections. But Bajaj being Bajaj, they had to do cost cutting so. Overal I'd say an amazing experience so far not a single moment of regret. All I have is satisfaction and the urge to get on my bike again and go out for a spin...! Okay so if you're someone who is very much into techy features and all those stuff then you should stay away, there are many other competitors who are much better. But i think that's not the purpose of this bike. This machine is for someone who just wants to have fun every time they get on the bike, someone who want to feel that rush and adrenaline surge into your veins everytime you ride the bike, someone who wants to lean how to ride fast the right way, someone who cares more about the engaging riding feel and experience rather than spec sheets filled with all the tech gizmos... You should definitely go and have a proper ride on this bike to fell all that beforehand atleast once..! Read More

NH 200 best bike

I choose the Bajaj pulsar ns200 for its combination of strong performance aggressive styling and excellent value for money within the 200cc segment. It is a popular choice for riders looking for a good performance machine in a budget. The Bajaj pulsar ns200 generally offers a fun and capable ride praised for its engine performance sporty handling and comfortable ergonomics for city and some longer rides. However some riders note that the engine can feel coarse with vibrations at higher RPM and the pillion seat is considered uncomfortable for long trips. The pulsar ns200 is worth considering if you prioritise strong performance and sharp handling at an affordable price making it a good option for city and occasional highway riding. However it may not be the best choice if you want modern features as it lacks some advance feature and has some drawbacks such as poor rear brake feel uncomfortable pillion seat and dated styling.Read More
