Continental - one of the largest manufacturers of vehicle safety equipments will locally produce ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) at its Gurgaon facility in Haryana. The first “Make in India” product will be delivered by the end of this year, sources revealed.

ABS for two-wheelers will be manufactured at Continental Automotive Brake Systems at Gurgaon. Besides this, Continental will also be producing ABS and ESC for passenger cars at the same facility. The company is also planning to start the localisation of ECU (Engine Control Unit) at its Bangalore facility by 2018. The decision will surely help in breaking prices of vehicles equipped with the above stated technologies by the manufacturer.

The Government has made mandatory for all 125cc and above capacity two-wheelers to have an ABS, which will be manufactured starting April 1, 2017. For existing two-wheelers with the same figure, the date has been extended one more year and these essentially need to be equipped with ABS from April 1, 2018. The proposal was drafted by Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

With the growing number of road accidents and deaths involved in them each year, vehicles should necessarily be equipped with such technologies in order to minimise the losses. With the localisation of safety equipments by Continental, we can expect more number of manufacturers to employ them in their products in near future.
