No, VinFast is not a Chinese company, but rather Vietnamese

VinFast Scooters India Launch Plans, Everything You Need To Know

The Indian electric two-wheeler segment, particularly the scooter space, is rapidly growing, with most of the sales coming in from big, well-established brands. A new EV brand, VinFast intends to enter this segment.

Where is this new brand from? What are they planning to launch in India? What would be the ideal product for the Indian EV buyers? This analysis should give you all the answers:

    VinFast: Who Are They?

VinFast is not a Chinese company, but rather Vietnamese. It’s a fairly large manufacturer - something similar to how Tata is in India, if you may. This brand not only makes electric cars but also electric scooters, and even electric city buses. VinFast had just entered the country with the launch of two cars a few months ago, and is pretty serious about our market. In fact, it also established an electric car assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

    VinFast Company Details

With the brand’s four-wheeler plans being right on track, VinFast now eyes the electric two-wheeler segment as well. It tested public perception by unveiling not one but five of its electric scooters, and even an electric bicycle in India back in January this year, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 (also known as Auto Expo).

VinFast Electric Scooters Planned Launch Timeline:

The company intends to enter the e-scooter space in India some time in 2026. While the exact launch date is not decided yet, expect it to happen in the second half of the year, closer to the festive season. What we know so far is that the company is currently doing a feasibility study. This study is essentially a detailed assessment done by the brand to see whether its products are ideal for the Indian market; whether it has the resources and strategy to cater to what a typical target buyer needs, especially in the local market. This is important to ensure the brand can survive in the long term.

The Theon S is a sleek scooter that comes with large 14-inch alloys for optimum ride quality. On the other hand, the Vento S looks more like a traditional neo-retro scooter with 12-inch alloys, and a swingarm-mounted motor. The Vero X looks similar to the Vento S, but comes with a hub motor and a fixed floorboard-mounted battery pack, and an optional removable 18kg battery under the seat.

The Evo Grand, Klara Neo, and Feliz are affordable electric scooters, all equipped with hub motors. Important specifications are as follows:

Both Evo Grand and Klara Neo look neo-retro, whereas the Feliz comes with a different design, complete with 14-inch alloys. While the finish levels are premium, we must admit they don’t really look unique enough to stand out, except maybe the ones with the large wheels.

Do note that the above specifications are for the ones sold in the Vietnamese market. The specifications will vary for the India-spec scooters.

    VinFast Feliz

Which One Is The Best VinFast Electric Scooter For India?

We feel the VinFast Vento S is the ideal electric scooter for our country as we found its performance and range to be adequate enough for our roads. That said, expect VinFast to make changes to the suspension tuning, and perhaps features too, to ensure it is a right fit here. As for the feature-set, the one sold in Vietnam comes with an all-LED lighting with a projector headlight, single-channel ABS, digital instrument console with smartphone connectivity and phone-as-a-key feature, remote start/stop, among others.

    VinFast Vento S

In our opinion, the VinFast Vento S should be launched first, and if it sells well, then the brand can introduce more electric scooters.

    Expected Price And Verdict:

If VinFast launches the Vento S at around Rs 1-1.1 lakh (ex-showroom), it’ll stand a solid chance against its competition, which will include the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ather Rizta, and the Ola S1X

That said, apart from competitive pricing, VinFast will have to work fast (pardon the pun) on establishing a healthy dealer and service network, not to mention put in a lot of effort in brand awareness. Afterall, the current electric scooter segment is dominated by legacy manufacturers like Bajaj Auto, TVS, and even Ather Energy at this point as it has been in the game for about seven years now.

VinFast will also have to ensure its electric scooter(s) are as feature-packed as possible as that has been the trend of late, especially in the Indian EV space. The TVS Orbiter is a perfect example for this.
