Harley X440 T vs Triumph Speed 400: Image Gallery Compared
American vs British roadsters, which one looks better? Find out frame-by-frame
Harley-Davidson recently launched the X440 T in India, at a price of Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With revised styling, it certainly looks sportier than the standard X440. But is it enough to be on par with the Triumph Speed 400 in terms of looks? Here’s an image comparison:
From the front, the Harley-Davidson X440 T looks quite similar to the normal X440, complete with the circular LED headlight, and tiny cowl just above the bezel. The wide handlebar on the T variant, coupled with the bar-end mirrors really make the bike look a lot sportier than the regular X440.
On the other hand, the Triumph Speed 400 looks a bit more compact - the design lines are tighter, and the gold finish on the fat inverted fork really adds to the bike’s premium quotient. Also, the dual-tone alloy wheels with brushed metal finish on the X440 T’s alloys remind us of the fancy alloys from Harley’s much more expensive bikes. It looks a lot more premium than the all-black alloys on the Speed 400.
The rounded TFT console on the Harley may look minimalist but is packed with all the necessary features including turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, among others. While the semi-digital console on the Speed 400 looks nice, we’d have liked it if the tachometer was analogue instead of the speedometer. It also lacks any form of connectivity.
Both bikes have pretty neat graphics on the fuel tank, but the main difference here is that the Triumph bike has different colour options applied only on the fuel tank whereas the X 440 T comes with matching colours on fuel tank as well as rear panels, depending on the colour you choose. The side panels on both bikes are black, but we like the one on the Triumph as it has the 3D brushed-metal embellishment with the Speed 400 logo.
While there’s a massive specification difference in the kind of engine these two bikes get, both brands have paid extra attention to making them look as retro as possible, so even the liquid-cooled Speed 400 comes with neatly-done engine fins. The Speed 400’s engine looks more compact, whereas the downpipe with the massive heat shield really draws the attention away from the engine in the X 400 T. The brushed metal finish on the Triumph Speed 400’s upswept exhaust goes well with the premium appeal of the bike, and it’s also nicely shaped. While Harley has made some tweaks to the design of the heat shield in its bike’s exhaust, it still somewhat sticks out like a sore thumb.
While both bikes get neatly-contoured single-piece seat, the tail panels on the Speed 400 are barely present. On the other hand, the X 440 T’s tail section reminds us of the iconic Harley-Davidson XR1200X, one of the brand’s sportiest motorcycles. It also nicely integrates the tail light, whereas the indicators are integrated into the number plate holders on both bikes.
Summing up, the Harley-Davidson X440T leans toward a chunkier, more old-school look, while the Triumph Speed 400 sticks to a cleaner, sportier vibe. Even though the Triumph Speed 400 is a lot cheaper at Rs 2,33,754, it still manages to look very premium. The Harley-Davidson X 400 T may be much more expensive at Rs 2,79,500 (both ex-showroom India), but will appeal to those who are looking for a muscular roadster that’s a great gateway into Harley’s lifestyle motorcycling.
Harley-Davidson X440 T User Reviews
I choose this bike because for their iconic, timeless, and rugged aesthetic, providing a distinct sense of freedom and rebellion. Harley Davidson bikes are known for their heavy duty frames. The signature 45 degree twin engine creates a distinct potato sounds and i like this. My bike riding experience is characterised by high comfort, strong, torque performance and excellent stability, though I noticed wind fatigue and heavy weight at slow speed. I find this bike particularly comfort. Yes, the Harley Davidson bike is recommended as a highly capable comfortable, and peppy urban cruiser. The suspension is plush, handling rough roads well and the seat is well padded. If you are looking for a reliable, feature pick this bike.Read More
