Suzuki Access 125 vs TVS Jupiter 125: Which One Is For You?

Which 125cc scooter suits your family better?

If you're planning to bring home a family scooter this Diwali, the Suzuki Access 125 and the TVS Jupiter 125 are two good ones to look at. Both are 125cc automatics, and both start at around Rs 82,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). To make things easier for you, we’ve compared them on price, space, features, and performance to help you pick the right one.

On the price front, the Access Standard Edition and the Jupiter Drum Alloy are just Rs 485 apart, so the starting price won't help you decide.

The difference shows up as you go up the range. The Access has two more variants than the Jupiter, and both exist because of ABS. The Jupiter skips ABS entirely and sticks to synchronised braking on all four variants. That's why its prices stop at Rs 89,935. If you want ABS on the Access, you'll pay at least Rs 97,030, and the top variant crosses Rs 1 lakh. It's extra money for extra safety, and only you can say if it's worth it.

Both scooters are about the same size and weight, so everyone in the family should find them easy to handle and park. Where they really differ is space. In our test, we found out the Jupiter's boot can fit a full-face helmet and a small grocery bag together. The Access boot, on the other hand, couldn't take a full-face helmet.

If a child or an elderly parent rides a pillion, the Jupiter's top variant has a cushioned backrest, which is quite useful when riding with a pillion. The Access seat is comfortable in the city, but it starts to feel hard after 30 to 40km. It suits short trips better.

The Access has the better braking setup because of ABS. It helps if someone cuts in front of you on a wet road. Even so, our expert never felt the need for it on the Jupiter's Disc variant, and found the brakes natural and well balanced.

The Jupiter has a few extras that help in daily use. Distance-to-empty tells you when to refuel, and the idle start-stop saves petrol at signals. The engine restarts with a slight delay, but you'll get used to it after a few rides. On the Access, the front pockets are open, so keep your phone and wallet elsewhere.

The Access is the more fun scooter to ride. It picks up faster, stays smooth at higher speeds, and has enough power left for overtaking on a flyover. If someone in your family likes a quicker ride, they will like this one.

The Jupiter is smooth in the city too, but it loses pace after 70kmph, so it's best kept for city use. In return, it gives us better mileage, which saves you more petrol over a year. Its bigger rear wheel also feels steadier at higher speeds than the Access's smaller one.

Verdict

If the scooter is for the whole family, we'd pick the Jupiter 125. The bigger boot, the comfortable pillion seat, and the better mileage will help you every day more than a quicker engine will. Now about choosing the right variant: the Disc variant is the sensible choice. The SmartXonnect is worth it if you want the backrest and navigation.

The Access is for those who want a smoother, quicker scooter with ABS. Our expert recommends the Special Edition, or the Ride Connect ABS Edition if you can spend a bit more.
