KTM 390 SMC R Spotted Testing Again In India

Expected to be the most affordable supermoto bike, but is it coming to India? We find out

Quick Highlight:

  • Similar design as the already launched 390 Enduro R

  • A supermoto is a lightweight bike with rugged bodywork, but road-oriented handling character

The KTM 390 SMC R has been spotted testing in India again. It is essentially the same bike which was spotted earlier, and also with the same number plate.

To put it simply, the SMC R is a supermoto bike that’s designed for xxxxx. It has the same powertrain, suspension, and the chassis as the KTM 390 Enduro R, but with 17-inch alloy wheels, and road-biased Apollo Alpha H1 tubeless tyres at both ends. However, it has a rugged styling as the Enduro R, with a high mounted front fender, sharp tank shrouds, and a sleek-looking tail section. It uses the same engine as other 390s, and similar suspension setup as the 390 Enduro.

All this should make the SMC R a fun to ride supermoto style bike with the exciting power delivery of the LC4C motor, coupled with a light weight frame - at least in theory.

Earlier, our sources disclosed that the KTM 390 SMC R would be available only on special orders, however, this plan has been shelved now. Even though the bike in the spyshots was seen with India-specific elements such as a saree-guard, and grab rails, it is unlikely to be launched in India. KTM might just be using the bike to do further testing before it is launched in other foreign markets.
