Honda SP125 DLX Variant: All You Need To Know

The Honda SP125 DLX is the fully-loaded version of Honda's SP125, a bike that's basically a sportier take on the best-selling Honda Shine 125. It's priced at Rs 97,335 (ex-showroom, Delhi), and here's everything you get for that money.

Design And Styling

The SP125 DLX looks the same as the base variant, no changes there. The headlight sits between muscular tank extensions that make the bike look bigger than a regular 125cc commuter. Add in a small sporty visor, an upswept exhaust, Y-shaped alloy wheels, and a slim LED taillight, and you’ve got a neat package that’ll appeal to the younger audience.

The body graphics area is also the same as the standard variant. You get five colour options: Imperial Red Metallic, Mat Axis Grey Metallic, Mat Marvel Blue Metallic, Pearl Igneous Black, and Pearl Siren Blue. Our pick would be the Mat Marvel Blue Metallic, since it's easy on the eyes and the graphics aren't too jarring. Build quality feels properly Honda too, with well-aligned panels, a decent paint finish, and switchgear that's tactile.

Features

The big highlight is the full-colour TFT console, which connects via Bluetooth to Honda's RoadSync app for turn-by-turn navigation, music control, call and message alerts. It also features weather updates, and even voice commands with a helmet-mounted headset (to be purchased separately). It also shows a tachometer, speedometer, gear position indicator, odometer, trip meters, real-time and average mileage, and a clock, and stays readable in harsh sunlight, with a dark mode for night use.

You get a 15W USB Type-C charging port under the handlebar, an idle start-stop system that shuts the engine off when stationary and restarts it the moment you pull the clutch, and a silent starter that fires the bike up smoothly and quietly.

Comfort

The riding position is neutral and upright, ideal for daily commuting, and the 790mm seat height combined with the bike's slim middle means most riders can flat-foot it easily. The seat is broad and softly cushioned, great for city rides, though you might start sinking into it on longer stints that last for hours. The pillion seat is wide enough for two without feeling cramped, and the grab rail is easy to hold. There are no differences in this department when it comes to the variants.

Safety And Braking

The SP125 DLX gets a 240mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum. Braking power is strong, though the lever needs a firm pull and the rear pedal a decent stomp, likely a deliberate choice to keep things predictable for commuters, as many tend to use the rear brake more than the front.

This is the second biggest difference when compared to the standard variant, as the latter comes with a front 130mm drum. While the disc should offer much better braking performance than the drum, there’s no ABS as Honda has to keep the pricing competitive. Other than this, it also gets a side-stand engine cut-off. 

Engine And Performance

Power comes from a 123.94cc, air-cooled single-cylinder engine (for both variants), making 10.87PS and 10.9Nm of torque, paired with a smooth 5-speed gearbox. In the city, it feels genuinely refined, with enough low-end torque to potter around in third gear without straining. On the highway, it settles in comfortably at 75-80kmph, though push past 90kmph and you'll feel some strain and handlebar buzz.

Our real-world testing returned an impressive 63.8kmpl in mixed riding, and with an 11.2-litre tank, that's around 600km of range on a full tank. At 117kg (1kg more than the standard variant), the DLX feels light and nimble in traffic, with a wide handlebar for good leverage, and it stays stable on the highway even in crosswinds, though steering gets a touch heavier at speed and aggressive cornering isn't really its thing.
