Celebrating 25 years of the Pulsar brand, Bajaj has launched the all-new Pulsar N160 S and Pulsar N160 SS in India. The new motorcycles bring a more powerful engine, ride-by-wire technology, multiple riding modes and several interesting features, making them the most advanced Pulsar models yet.

Pricing 

The Pulsar N160 S has been launched at Rs 1,33,511, while the range-topping Pulsar N160 SS is priced at Rs 1,42,585 (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

Available Colours

Both motorcycles are available in three colour options:

• Atlantic Blue

• Pearl Metallic White

• Brooklyn Black (also gets gloss red alloy wheels)

Personally, the Atlantic Blue shade looks the best, especially with the golden coloured inverted fork that gives the bike an even sportier appearance.

Updated Engine

• Engine: 165 cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve

• Maximum Power: 18.5 PS at 9,500 rpm

• Maximum Torque: 14.4 Nm at 8,000 rpm

• Gearbox: 5-speed

• 0-60 kmph: 4.5 seconds (claimed)

• Ride modes: Rain, Road, Sport and Off-road

Powering both motorcycles is a new 164.5cc, 4-valve engine producing 18.5 PS, making it the most powerful motorcycle in its segment. However the torque figure has gone down slightly at 14.4 Nm (14.65 Nm on the 2V). Bajaj also claims a 0-60kmph sprint time of just 4.5 seconds, making it the quickest in the class as well.

The biggest addition is the new Electronic Throttle Body (ETB), which enables smoother throttle response and unlocks advanced rider aids. Riders can choose from four riding modes: Rain, Road, Sport and Off-road. These modes change the bike's power and torque output, while also changing the throttle response to suit different riding conditions.

Underpinnings

The new Bajaj Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS continue with the sporty streetfighter design of the N160 while receiving updated styling elements. The N160 SS also gets revised ergonomics with a new handlebar position and seat height for improved rider comfort. Bajaj has also given these models chunkier 37mm inverted fork, while the N160 2V gets slimmer 33mm ones. The bikes run on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends with a 100-section front and a 130-section rear tyre.

Other than this, these models also get a larger 300mm front disc and while rear 230mm disc remains unchanged.

Along with these new models the Pulsar N160 2V also remains on sale. That said, the new Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS are much more than just cosmetic updates. The new 165cc 4-valve engine, ride-by-wire technology, and four riding modes make them significantly more advanced than before and should offer improved performance. The N160 SS, with features like traction control and Google Maps mirroring, particularly stands out as one of the most feature-packed motorcycles in the 160cc segment. These updates have also made the N160 a much stronger rival to the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. At their respective prices, both bikes look like strong value-for-money offerings and should further strengthen Bajaj’s position in the sporty commuter segment.
