Quick Highlights
-
Triumph Daytona 660 launched at Rs 9,72,450 (ex-showroom)
-
Gets a 660cc inline-three engine; 95PS, 69Nm
-
Will rival the Kawasaki Ninja 650
The Triumph Daytona 660 has been launched at Rs 9,72,450 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Unlike the Daytona 675R, this one is a sports tourer and is based on the same platform as the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660.
Triumph Daytona 660 Engine
It’s powered by a 660cc inline-three engine that makes 95PS at 11,250rpm and 69Nm at 8,250rpm. 80% of its torque is available from 3,125rpm, which should make this a quick bike off the line. It gets a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch for easier shifting. A bi-directional quickshifter, for quick, seamless up and down gear changes, is an optional accessory.
Triumph Daytona 660 Underpinnings
The Triumph Daytona 660 gets a 41mm inverted fork and a preload adjustable monoshock; both units from Showa. The bike has 17-inch alloy wheels with a 120-section front tyre and 180-section rear, both Michelin Power 6. It has twin 310mm disc brakes at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear, with steel braided lines and dual-channel ABS.
Triumph Daytona 660 Ergonomics
Being a sport tourer, the Daytona 660 commands a tucked-in riding posture, but it shouldn’t be too aggressive, like a hardcore sport bike. It has a relatively tall 810mm seat height, but it can be lowered to 785mm with the optional lower seat. The bike has a 14-litre fuel tank, and a 201kg kerb weight.
Triumph Daytona 660 Features
The features on the Daytona include ride-by-wire, three riding modes (Sport, Road, & Rain) that change the throttle response and traction control intervention, a dual-screen console (smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and phone alerts is optional), and more.
Triumph Daytona 660 Optional Accessories
Triumph India is offering a total of 30 optional accessories like tyre pressure monitoring system, underseat USB storage, heated grips, luggage options, and more.
Triumph Daytona 660 Rivals
The Daytona 660 rivals the Kawasaki Ninja 650 which costs Rs 7,16,000. While not a true rival, at Rs 10,30,000, the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE costs just about Rs 60,000 more than the Daytona 660. All prices ex-showroom, Delhi. The Honda CBR650R would be a rival as well, but since the bike is missing from the Honda Big Wing website, it seems to have been silently discontinued.
BikeDekho Says
The Daytona 660 might seem like a spiritual successor to the iconic Daytona 675, but in reality, it is not. Based on Triumph’s 660cc platform, the new Daytona has become an entry-level multi-cylinder offering for the British brand. The Daytona has traded in its sharp corner carving skills for relatively relaxed ergonomics and mile-munching capabilities. This should be purposely done to make the Daytona more accessible and friendlier than its predecessor, and attract a newer, younger audience to the brand.
