Royal Enfield has launched the highly-anticipated Classic 650 in India. This new model expands Royal Enfield’s 650cc lineup. It offers a more powerful experience (as compared to the Classic 350), while maintaining the iconic retro styling. With the launch of the new Classic 650, the company is offerring exciting finance and upgrade options for current Classic 350 owners through Reown. This offer will be available at all Royal Enfield dealerships across 230+ cities in India.

Pricing And Variants

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 is available in a total of four colour options: Vallam Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue, Classic Teal, and Chrome Black. Prices start at Rs 3,37,000 (ex-showroom, Chennai), with the top variant priced at Rs 3,50,000. The only difference between the variants are the colour options being offered with them. Design

The Classic 650 carries forward the design language of the Classic 350, with which it shares a lot of styling elements. The 650 gets a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, chrome elements, and twin peashooter exhausts. The motorcycle also retains the signature ‘tiger-eye’ pilot lights.

Engine

At the heart of this new, bigger Classic is the tried-and-tested 648cc, air and oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine that makes 47PS at 7,250rpm, 52.3Nm at 5,650rpm, and comes paired to a six-speed gearbox. This is the same motor as the other 650cc Royal Enfield bikes. The bike also features revised gearing to accommodate its 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup.

Underpinnings

Weighing 243kg kerb, the Classic 650 is the heaviest Royal Enfield bike to date. The fuel tank capacity is 14.7 litres. The chassis is a steel tubular spine frame, shared with the Shotgun and Super Meteor. Suspension wise, it gets a 43mm telescopic fork with 120mm of wheel travel, and Showa twin shock absorbers with 90mm of wheel travel. In terms of brakes, it has a 320mm front and a 300mm rear disc, with dual-channel ABS. The bike runs on a 100-section front and a 140-section rear tyre, both MRF Nylohigh-N. The seat height is 800mm and ground clearance is 154mm. In comparison, the Classic 350 gets an 805mm seat height and 170mm of ground clearance.

Features

The Classic 650 includes features such as an LED headlight and taillight, an analogue speedometer with a small digital display, adjustable clutch and brake levers, gear position indicator, tripper navigation pod, and a USB Type-C charging port. The instrument cluster is shared with the Classic 350. While the 350 has turn-by-turn navigation as an optional fitment, the 650 gets it as standard across all variants.

Rivals

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 does not really have direct rivals as such. The BSA Gold Star 650 can be considered as a roadster alternative for a similar price and performance, but it gets a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. If you are looking for a cruiser, then you can choose between the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, Super Meteor 650, or the more premium Kawasaki Vulcan S in the 650cc segment - but it costs twice as much.
